And here I was hoping it was a room full of squirrels. They are so cute…
It’s hosted a squirrel or two a few times when $Wife is doing wildlife rehab!
But so destructive!
I am always worried the foster squirrels we occasionally have will escape.
And (mostly) done! Just waiting on the mirror and currently staining the crates for tp and towels that’ll go on the back of the toilet. Next up: the big bathroom project. My family is coming down for Thanksgiving so I gotta hurry!!
mirror mirror on the wall… oh wait…
WHERE IS THE MIRROR???

It is currently sitting in the front seat of my bff’s Rover and I will get it tomorrow. She replaced it and it’s perfect for this space, so… Free mirror!
When she comes over after you’ve installed it, will seeing it there weird her out?
For anyone with a small bathroom, definitely recommend checking out Ikea’s offerings. Getting the pluming working can be a nuisance, but they have a ton of sink pedestals and such built for small spaces. We used it for our basement bathroom and it’s great.
No weirder than seeing my old barbells in her basement, her lawn mower in my garage, or playing Mario kart on her switch with my old game.
Currently wearing a pair of her old sweats. It’s like having twice as much stuff, tbh.
We’re kind of using the kitchen as of yesterday. There’s a few minor issues to handle (light fixture, some rails for towels and stuff, a plate for one outlet) but we’re getting to the minor stuff.
Finally hanging my canvases and pictures. Then I will have several rooms finished. Here’s the bathroom and the living room, and the entryway. Just need to hang the office and the sitting room canvases and I’m done with most of the house. Just one bathroom and the kitchen to go…
We need one outlet cover for the kitchen (in part because I suggested switching from plain white plastic to metal) and of course the basic style we picked has gone off the floor between last weekend and today.
Making a drive to an alternate location of our preferred (as in we have credit) big-box home repair place tonight on the way home… Because the location I could hit at lunchtime didn’t have any.
Haha, fluffy doggy! Nice
Kitchen is nearly done. Contractor should be installing some rails and under-the-counter lights today, as well as the new light fixture.
(We paid extra for the "rotated 90 degrees) option.)
Don’t you hate when it happens?
Totally!
This project and a slight financial ‘oopsie’ basically pushed one major Home Supply store on us: Locally, we have tons of locations for Home Depot and Lowes, and we ended up settling on one that we had better experiences with for cabinets. This also meant that we broke down and got a credit card with them because 5% off cabinets, countertops, flooring, etc. means a lot.
The ‘oopsie’ is I overpaid the credit card bills, so they’ve got a big chunk of excess cash tied up. Worst case, I’m buying gift cards from them if I need them for gifts.
Still, it means I’m a bit more limited… Not that the competitor would have the same product line anyway.
I ended up tacking nearly an hour on to my commute home to get a less-than-$5 plate for a wall socket.
(I’ve said I liked Ikea for small bathrooms; We looked at them for cabinets and they have some nice options, but they do come as flat-pack from what we’ve heard and they use a ‘special’ hanging system that isn’t quite what contractors expect from what I hear, so we passed on them. They can be cheaper, and I’ve heard the quality is good.)
Can’t you just ask for the overage back? It’s your money and if you owe them nothing, they have no right to keep it.
Yep, there isn’t much from there that doesn’t come flat packed. (Furniture - lamps, bowls, and wine glasses don’t count)
Yes, they have their own system, that actually looks pretty nifty - one long main top rail that keeps everything aligned, then either legs or additional screws into studs take the rest of the weight. Because my kitchen doesn’t have a good place to add anything, I picked up a tall narrow cabinet that I installed in a corner of the dining room. I only had the one piece, so the rail wasn’t necessary; I just adjusted the feet so it was square and level, then anchored it at the top real good and at the bottom just to be safe. It’s like 7 feet tall and maybe 2 feet wide & deep, so I didn’t want any hint of tippy-ness.
I’d love to replace the cabinets in the kitchen, but that starts down the slippery slope. If I did cabinets, I’d have to replace the countertops - formica over particle board that would surely crumble if disturbed, and is especially questionable over the dishwasher. Also would have to address the flooring. The previous owner installed the ceramic tile themselves. Beyond just despising the color (supposed to be a neutral off white, but it looks too pinkish for my taste, and with whiteish grout. oh the horror), it only goes to the edges of the cabinets. Replacing the dishwasher and fridge were each a different pain in the butt in their own special ways because of where the tiles stop. But the tile isn’t just in the kitchen, it extends into the dining room, through all the hallway-type areas, and into the guest bathroom. Only the living room and bedrooms are carpeted, but $Wife wants something non-carpet put in those areas, too. I don’t know if/when that will happen, because it seems like a huge pain to do everything at once. Other than the bedrooms, it seems like it would look pretty awful to just do part of it in one hard surface and leave the rest in another. But that’s not my strength, so who knows what will happen. End rant, I guess I needed to vent a bit.
We probably can, but the last two months have been a back and forth as we buy stuff, return stuff, but other stuff, etc. just trying to let it shake out a bit.
