Our new family member, Mercy, 14 or 15 months. Beagle and Virginia Black and Tan Coon Hound.
I mentioned this campaign before, and it just got publicized.
I know we have some folks in the San Diego area. Rescues are in desperate need of fosters for a bunch of Chi/Doxie mix dogs. One of them is a mother with very tiny newborn puppies. If you can take in even one of them while they heal up and get used to better environments, it would be appreciated. The rescues will provide all needed supplies.
A couple have already died.
ETA: They are all being taken care of.
Congratulations Corduroy
This is horrifying.

Hooves three and a half feet long! (thatâs over a meter for our non-US friends).
I donât even understand. Why keep them and take care of them at all if you are going to do it so badly? They looked halfway clean, and obviously someone was feeding them something.
I sort of get abuse, you are mad at the world and you take it out on an animal. And neglect is another thing, but half assed neglect? I get if owners get in over their heads on a horse, but to stay in over your head for 15 years?
I think the pictures there were after they had been washed off and brushed a bit. One of the articles I saw said they were covered in flies when they were first found.
In my neck of the woods, thereâs Beth Hoskins, who neglected 77 horses and stretched the animal cruelty case out for years, in an attempt to kill the SPCA with court costs. Then she sued shelter staff and attorneys for $2 billion. Sheâs extremely wealthy but couldnât seem to hire a single farrier. She ended up getting some horses back, the poor creatures.
Donât click on the photo album unless you want to be sad.

I didnât even need to click on the album to feel sad. We have two Shetland ponies in our family, and if anyone even thought about harming them Iâd run them through with a scaffold pole.
I really donât get why people continue to acquire animals for which they do not have the means to support nor the expertise to maintain. There have been several cases recently that the RSPCA have dealt with which have made me - as a grown man - weep because of the neglect the animals have suffered.
I donât know how it is in America but here in the UK the RSPCA canât even take people to court unless the police agree that animals are in a âsuitableâ amount of distress, which I find absolutely ridiculous.
Anyway, onto nicer thoughts. Boris (the malevolent furbeast) was eating our leftovers today and when I asked âis that tastyâ he made one of his ultra-rare Ăźber-cute âmeeyoopâ noises
For a while, Wil Wheaton posted tweets that were from a fake book of his dog giving advice on how to be a dog. He just turned it into a real book with illustrations and is selling it to help raise money for the Pasadena Humane Society.
Itâs dedicated to their dog Reily, who became famous a few years ago for having the âIâm a dog!â face. Wil is going to be at the Rose City Comic Con in Portland, Oregon next weekend, but it doesnât look like he or Anne have a booth there this time.
Details on Wilâs blog
I read a couple of comics over on GoComics.com, including one for Phoebe and Her Unicorn. Today at the bottom, five of the six âclickbaitâ links show the 22 ways to make your kitty happy. I wonder how long it will be until the cats take over that part of the Internet, too.
Not looking. I get enough of that on my Facebook feed.
There was a similar case in Colorado or Wyoming a decade or so ago. The woman lost all of her horses because of extreme neglect, and was ordered to never own another animal.
Two years later, they discovered she had bought another twenty horses.
Youâre just being silly. Objects donât need support or expertise. Maintenance? what a hilarious concept. Donât you realize that you buy something, you put it where you want it, and then youâre done, unless you decide to put it someplace else! Where do you get these silly ideas?
Just typing that makes me want to go bathe in super-heated Purell.
Wil Wheaton is a self important hypocritical assbag passing himself off as the conscience of his generation. While being a huge douchecanoe. âDonât be a dickâ, my ass.
Iâd rather buy a John Wayne Gacy blind date handbook. OTOH, that does remind me that I do need to set up something for the spay neuter clinic this year.
Um. Wow. Where the hell did that come from?
My observation of the facts, his bandwagoning onto any SJW cause that catches his eyes, and his attacks on people he believes are on the wrong side of those issues, regardless of their actual stance.
He is the original concern troll and turns vicious when called out.
Happy retirement
The 2105 American Humane Society American Hero Dog award has been announced. The eight finalists presented a tough field, but I donât think any of them hold any grudges against the winner. (They also announced the Hero Veterinarian and the Hero Veterinary Technician of the year as well)
Iâve got a bit of a problem. I have a kitty that needs a new home. No, not Shiro.
A couple of weeks ago my wife and I went to the shelter intending to get a cat as a companion for Shiro, who has long wanted someone to play with.
She was enamored of this little black kitten named Romeo, and heâs a sweetie.
I, however, had this slightly older (1-2 years old) orange and white female who flopped into my lap and declared me her thumbbeast.
She is a complete darling to me - playful, snuggly, and she will flop into your lap and stay there getting petted until she literally oozes out. But, sadly, sheâs aggressive to other cats. And since Shiro has seniority, she canât stay.
I think sheâd be great for a single-cat household, she just doesnât handle a multi-cat environment.
Iâm willing to take her anywhere in the bay area, and in addition to the cat Iâll throw in a litter box, a bag of food - basically what you need to get started with a cat.
That sucks, man. I take it the aggressiveness came out after she got comfortable in the house.
Best of luck to you. You might want to check with the local kitty-specific rescues, theyâd likely be very understanding.
