Let this percolate for a bit

Saw this image and just had to do a filk…

Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to drink with you again
And the water was softly steeping
Brewed those beans while I was sleeping
And the aroma that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within that cup of caffeine

Among restless people I walk alone
Of early mornings I can’t condone
Into the hallow of an empty mug
I pour the carafe of my daily drug
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of an early light
That split the night
I savor that cup of caffeine

And in that morning light I saw
Ten thousand baristas maybe more
People talking without thinking
People walking without looking
People going through life in complete despair
I didn’t care
Except for that cup of caffeine

“Fools,” said I, “you do not know
Coffee is a bean that grows
Hear them brewing that it might teach you
Drink them well that it might reach you
Wake from the slumber from which you dwell
And bask in that cup of caffeine”

And the people bowed and prayed
To the piping pot they made
And a sign flashed out its warning
As the latte was slowing foaming
And the sign said
“Coffee half-price with
purchase of a scone
Take some home”
And they all bought a cup of caffeine

Nicely done. However the song this is based on always makes me think of that scene in Old School where Will Ferrell’s character nearly drowns and has the dream sequence with his ex-wife on the beach while he’s passed out.

Bravo.
