My wife lost $300 in cash Saturday. Maybe at a farmer’s market. It was the lion’s share of the first Mortgage payment my daughter has paid us since August last year.
I have not yelled, or shown disapproval, or even said what she should have done with the money. The only thing I said was that it sucked since I had already spent some of it in my head. This has proven very hard to do. And this is the only place I am going to say anything about it, which will also be difficult.
Yeah, the sunflower avatar is gone, odd. Dunno about Google connected. And I don’t thing I’ve ever heard of Google Cards, either. Hmmm, now I feel like I’m missing out on something; time to go digging.
Ahh, ok, thanks @dakboy. I don’t have Google Now enabled, nor do I link things, for the most part. They probably know too much about me as it is. Now where did I put my tin foil hat?
I’m voting they don’t pay, because that’ll just feed the trolls. I’d rather intermittent access to my (paid for) RSS aggregator of choice than encouraging those idiots…
Hey, how bout that huge foreign coup of solving the Iraq problem once and for all back in 2011?
Awesomeness, we can now ask the Iranians to help us fight the people we helped in Syria using the WMDs that weren’t in Iraq. Or, just do what democrats seem to do in this sort of situation and bomb the crap out of someone.
Can we just back the fucking Kurds? Bush screwed the pooch disbanding the military and the Bathists, but I haven’t seen anyone do anything to fix that.
The Middle East just doesn’t have a society at this point that can put national or societal loyalty above tribal or family loyalty. An American, often, will risk their life for their neighbor, or even their neighbor’s property. Your average Arab it only matters to if there is some other connection other than proximity. Not to say that they are inhuman or anything, but the social structure doesn’t reward, or acknowledge, helping the “other” like western, and even eastern cultures.
Someone like Mother Theresa is a fool by Arabian standards. Not because she helped people, but because she would help anyone, thereby hurting her people.
Let the whole damn place balkanize, we should push for it, and try for a soft landing. Why does the west insist on the stupid lines Britain drew in the sand across tribal borders? Let the local people divide themselves the way they want to be divided. It’s like we have a sack full of cats, and to help them we put the sack in a box and then told them to behave. Let the damn cats out of the bag, and maybe they can live in the box peacefully.
I’d go to the games here in town, but $64 a pop for soccer in a college stadium is a bit steep, especially when we have an awesome minor league baseball stadium just down the street.
Wow…that’s quite a bit of cash, @Woodman. We have an MLS team in town, a college football team, an NHL team, and a minor league baseball team, and the college team is by far the most expensive. MLS tickets start around $25, NHL same thing, and minor league ball around $10. I would never pay $60 for a random match just for fun, especially with a family of 5. Sure, for a special event I will drop some cash, but not for a spur-of-the-moment night out…
I hear ya; it was partially in jest. Where I live, with the large latin/hispanic population, there are a lot of soccer fans. I’m just as unlikely to go to a Dynamo game as I am a Texans game, though. If it isn’t motorsports, I’m not going to go out of my way to catch it.
And $60 will get me into a Colts game if I’m so inclined.
Now, these were awesome seats, I think the regular seats are around $30 or $40, but still. When I can catch an Indians game for $12.50 and a 32 oz beer for $4?
Compared to my friends who are bigger fans, I haven’t been to very many ball games in my life (foot-, basket-, or base-) but the farm team baseball games have been the most enjoyable, far and away. And, as you point out, a heck of a lot easier on the wallet. Tremendous bang for the buck.
Mike was referencing the new monarch in Spain taking over for his father with no lavish, public ceremony since they can’t afford it… and stated as much.
Thanks for the clarification, Doc. I liked the rhyme, too. But, I really didn’t realize they still recognize a monarch.
Congratulations to Felipe. I guess it was his destiny to be the King of Spaaaaain. lolz
It was actually a world cup reference, but it’s also appropriate to the monarchy
Spain are the defending champions, but have been knocked out at the group stage.

I like the rhyme, Mike!
[/quote]Nope, see above (though I did actually have the monarchy in the back of my mind too)
The rhyme is actually a reference to a song from My Fair Lady “The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain”
Edit: There are a few other references to that song in newspaper headlines, but I prefer my version
