I lean a bit toward this camp. But I’ve been in the office at least one day a week since we started WFH, and 3 or 4 days for most of the weeks since mid March when we started WFH.
Microsoft Teams sucks balls.
Interesting - I really like it. We used to use Skype for business and Slack for our communications and Teams combines both those things into one (reduces cost and it’s more convenient). I don’t think it’s perfect, but I do like it.
What is it you don’t like?
For the meetings themselves it’s not bad. But it’s slowed down my system to the point that it’s unusable at times. Maybe there’s some setting I need to tweak, but ever since I installed it my system randomly hangs for a minute or more, even if I don’t have it open. And, if I shut it down all together, I have to remember to start it up 10 minutes before the meeting otherwise I’ll be late joining because it takes so long to start up and let me in.
Yeah, that’d certainly put me off it too. I don’t see any of those issues at all - including it taking a long time to connect to meetings - so my experience with it is completely different. I guess that’s why I like it and you don’t
I hate taking antibiotics. They always clean out my gut of all of the good bacteria too, so unless I’m really on top of eating some probiotics a few hours after taking them, I end up with the worst intestinal distress. On the other hand, it amazes me how fast a cup of yogurt settles that back down.
It really is that easy to bork an Exchange server to the point of no return by fiddling with the permissions.
Been there, done that, not going to do it again.
We use the mix of “No one is willing to mandate a choice, so…”
My work machine has MS Teams, WebEx Teams, Jabber, Outlook, and a few other tools. Our help desk ticketing app has chat in it, because why not? Webex is mostly the standard for video, but since some vendors use Zoom…
Some departments use Skype, while others use Skype for Business, which is a different thing.
And I’m sure some teams have private Discords or whatever because who cares about security.
I do know I sometimes get at least 3 popups for meetings to attend, which is kind of nuts.
I have some extra money this month. Do I buy that meat grinder that I’ve had in my wish list for months or put it in savings? hmmm… debate, debate…
I just got a meat grinder attachment for my stand mixer a couple weeks ago. Haven’t had the chance to use it for anything yet, but I figured having one would be useful should I ever need it. Also got a slicer/grater type attachment as well.
We have a manual meat grinder. Family heirloom (almost). And we have used it once or twice.
The FCC announced back in March that all carriers and phone companies must authenticate calls by June next year as a way to cut down on spoofed caller IDs. I love that the protocol they’re mandating is named “STIR/SHAKEN”.
Fnarrr fnarrr
Ne’er-do-wells will think outside the box and run rings around the Rules and Regulations.
“If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns”.
I bought it. It’s a manual. I’m not going to be doing industrial grinding, so manual should be fine. This one is a sturdy one that should last me the rest of my life.
Is that what you do in most online games in order to get extra XP etc?
We use Skype for Business for messaging and pop-up meetings.
Sure, buy you have to listen to loud, clanky, music, too.
It’s time for another Good Idea, Bad Idea, Worse Idea.
Good Idea: Wanting to play nature sounds for your employees to listen to as they get to and leave work.
Bad Idea: Installing the speakers in an entryway with hard surfaces for the sounds to bounce off and amplify the volume.
Worse Idea: Not listening to what you bought before you play it, resulting in employees being deafened by screeching birds and worrying about Norman Bates lurking nearby.
I went to the office for the first time since March 18. I like working from home a heck of a lot better. Fewer distractions. So much random talking in the hallway, even with just the handful of people who are working there. I’d blame it on the isolation and desire to interact with other people more, but it was like that before–it’s part of why I like working from home so much.
At least the new car got 39 mpg on the trip. I do like the car.
Seriously, Tumblr, hire a professional web designer that understands the importance of not annoying your users or inducing medical episodes in them. You’re still using the same kind of images for your 404 page.
