And the leprosy. Don’t forget the leprosy.

Chocolate or otherwise?

… or perhaps, this?

Reminds myself of the time I used a hex editor and changed all occurences of “Microsoft” and “Mouse” to “Machosoft” and “Moose”…

Sadly, nobody picked it up.

Ahhh, the good old days of DOS… C:\>

THEY HAVE WHAT???

Transmission | Hansen's Disease (Leprosy) | CDC.

I thought leprosy had gone the way of small pox… i had no clue it was still around.

I think it’s relatively hard to get and treatable now, but I’d still avoid it of course.

… like the plague.

Today I learned you can bypass some of Chrome’s cert warnings, even the unskippable ones, by clicking on the block page and typing ‘thisisunsafe.’

We had a new guy start today who’s fresh out of college. And he’s being thrown into this environment with a bunch of cynical fortysomethings. Poor bastard.

this website…

http://www.truthseekers.joburg/

just make me want to nuke it into oblivion.

We’re 3 older (40-55) networking dudes on a team, and just had a new hire added. We act as dudes act. We talk as dudes talk. We’re not awful, but we can be crass.
The new hire is a young, twentysomething French-Canadian/Asian woman with no life experience and no work experience.
I’m sure we’ll all adjust, but there is going to be a learning curve for all involved.

Oops, better be careful.

Be honest and upfront, tell her what you guys usually do, and let her know that you+team will try to watch your language etc, and that she must not take offense. (Not sure if this is the right approach). If she know what to expect, I think she will give you guys some leeway.

And work on it. You guys can do it.

We are a large group of very crass and dirty females. I tell every single person who gets hired that we will gladly tone it down if anything bothers them, but that the stress of the job makes dirty jokes, etc, par for the course. But unless they tell us it’s very hard to know what might be offensive.

The only time we’ve ever been asked to stop is to not make your momma jokes anymore because one of the staff members had just lost their mom. So we stopped.

When I first started here one of my colleagues was telling a story and another colleague stopped him and was like “Hey, no F-bombs”. It took me a second to realize that was because of me. This was before I was out to any of them. I said “Don’t feel like you have to keep it PG-13 on my account.”

Why are rainbows beautiful? For that matter, why is anything beautiful?
Do other animals perceive beauty, or is that a purely human thing?

In order: because they are, because it is if you so wish to perceive and no.

Next questions.

Last night, I finally dove into the 30-plus unread messages in my personal email and got them down to 10. I’d just been avoiding my inbox for a week or so.

Then I kept going. Deleted a bunch of 2 year old text message threads. Why was I keeping them? No clue. Then I looked at the ones that I have kept and turned off notifications for a bunch of them (Amazon shipment notifications, phone company billing alerts, etc.).

Then I set my phone to only check for new email hourly. Did the same on the computer.

Just trying to de-clutter some…and more importantly, turn down the notification spam because that’s been piling a lot of weight on me, mentally.

Up next is my Pocket queue, which is approaching 400 items but let’s face it, I’m not going to read that thing I saved 6 years ago. I just wish there was a way I could automate that and have anything saved more than 2 years ago archived or deleted, instead of me having to manually do it. Would be nice to have the same for my YouTube Watch Later queue.
