Random Musings (and associated non sequiturs) v. 3.0

My work throttles OneDrive at, I think, a policy level. It is not a great solution for (say) sharing an iso image like I need to do this afternoon.

It’s fascinating but like most services I feel like no one quite understands it well enough to make it useful, so we’ve moved from a bit bucket on-prem file share to a Cloud bit bucket.

Now I know why the ice cream in my freezer always seems to be partially melted. There’s some kind of air path between the refrigerator and freezer sections so that when I close the refrigerator door, it pops the freezer door open slightly.

The freezer door seals properly when I close it. There’s just more air moving when the refrigerator door is closed than the freezer door seal can resist, depending on how fast the door is closed. I just tested by hitting the frame with my hand, so it’s not an impact bounce causing this.

A little bit of Velcro tape will solve this problem, much to Red Green’s disappointment.

They’re ba-ack! First bloom of the year and eight separate groups of crocuses this year. Their ability to announce the weather may not be working this time as the forecast for the next two weeks has the temperature slowly increasing.

The tulips up front started poking up out of the ground a week ago. They’ll probably bloom early, too.

Update: All of the crocuses bloomed. Just wasn’t light enough for me to see it clearly at the time.

Nova Scotia’s Lucy the Lobster says 6 more weeks of winter.
Always believe the lobster.

Trigger warning, Butt Stuff.

Got my colonoscopy last week. Prep wasn’t that bad, mostly hunger. Being a diabetic and only being able to eat water and sugar for almost 2 days was a challenge. The prep wasn’t bad, the pooping was like being super sick, but not actually feeling bad. And frankly the adjusting back to solid food pooping was worse. That first solid meal was incredible.

If you are over 45, do it. I had two polyps and need to come back in 2 years, not a fan. I have had two people I know die from colon cancer, and I already have my one allotted cancer.

This year I get to do the trifecta! Mammogram, Pap, and colonoscopy! How did I get so lucky?!?

Memory hole help. Someone here posted an asthetic that I was jamming on. It was something like retrocyber or something. I keep searching terms and not quite getting there. We shared some screen shots or something, but I swear I am just not searching the right term.

Laser cyber isn’t quite there, it was very 80’s and very neon retro future.

Vaporwave?

Vaporwave, cyberfunk, cyberwave, synthwave, and nightwave.

I have playlists and artists i can recommend on Spotify. i am a big fan of the "sound of Blade Runner and other 80s’’ style music.

im a 93’s kid so idk why im a sucker for it. Maybe because it sounds like crt and VHS movies but modern at the same time.

vaporwave! and Vandelis has been on my playlist since the early 90’s. Chill hop, 80’s synth all those channels on Youtube are my go to to listen to.

And for some real fun look up Space Banjo.

Just get all the Vangelis you can find. You’ll be fine.

Well, birds can definitely be stupid. They scooped all of the feed out of the feeders and dumped it on the ground. A month later, it’s still there. I haven’t refilled the feeders which equals to them “there’s no food there”.

I have been using RadioFreeFedi for most of my music listening the last year or so. It’s all music from the fediverse music community, almost exclusively hobbyist and independent semi-pro people. Lots of wild, weird, and wonderful stuff. Most of my music purchases in the last year (on BandCamp) have been things I hear on RFF.

It’s run by a disabled tech worker/subsistence farmer in New Zealand. The community recently ponied up enough donations so he could a) survive for the year and b) keep the radio going after a bad crop season.

There is also just something uniquely charming about listening to a stream and hearing music from people I know interspersed with interesting new things and even the occasional song that I did the bass line on.

I’ve seen that behavior, and I blame it on people buying crap-level birdfeed. I think the birds have learned if they root around in the feed they’ll find better stuff, no matter what you’ve presented.

And yes, some birds only eat from trays, or vertical feeders, and will not ever go to ground. You’ll need to import some mourning doves! Those fat butts will eat anything, from anywhere.

Starlings and Grackles will do it just to be assholes.

In other news.

This guy is saying 30% of office space just needs to be demo’d. Pull the bandaid right off. I would bet 30% gets demo’d and another 20% malingers for years. Office spaces looking like old malls might be the sign of the 30’s.

Get hold of your ass.

I’m a big fan of Radio Garden. It’s (according to Wikipedia) a “non-profit Dutch radio and digital research project developed from 2013 to 2016” that allows you to listen to radio stations all over the world. Some of my regular stations are a Portuguese Fado station in Lisbon, a WWII music station with the original adverts out of the UK, a station out of Illinois that plays old radio plays, and an Irish pub music station out of Dublin.

LOL, using soy/corn wiring casing might not be a great idea in military vehicles. Millions of dollars of European artillery and other military equipment rendered useless by mice and rabbits.

There are many environmental/conservation moves I support. Greening the military first is just dumb. Most, if not all, military equipment should be exempt from environmental controls.

Organic-based insulation has been used in other kinds of vehicles and office products. One trick I read was to put scented dryer sheets in the cardboard tube that comes in rolls of toilet paper and secure them in the frame next to the insulation. The smell of the dryer sheets is supposed to be a rodent repellent.

And I really think some of that is a good idea. But for a military operation it’s kind of dumb. And even for civilian cars it’s super questionable. I know a couple people that have lost electrical systems to tree rats.

Ha.

EV tanks and EV military vehicles are the dumbest idea ever thought out.
