Random Musings (and associated non sequiturs) v. 3.0

I fill the dog dish with water that sits out on the counter all day. It lets all the chlorine and other smells evaporate or precipitate out.

Why did I pick up Dwarf Fortress again?

I’ve spent so much time modding the Sims 4 that I worked out that if I had been downloading these mods on the data connection I had 10 years ago, I would have spent more time downloading the mods than I have playing the Sims 4… And I’ve played like twenty hours of it!

My soon to be 12 year old daughter loves the Sims 4.

I was going to let my daughter play Sims, but she’s only 8. Maybe in a couple years.

I hate reinstalling my OS. My C: has been getting fuller and fuller, and this morning it wouldn’t boot, so I wiped the drive and started over from scratch. I’m currently at installing update 201 of 236, and that’s just the first sweep. :frowning:

Gah. That was ugly. First, I managed to get a virus on the system before I managed to install the anti-virus, and couldn’t update Windows. So I re-installed again, installed the anti-virus from the file I’d downloaded to my server. Then I ran the first round of updates and rebooted. Then I couldn’t do anything on the system. I kept getting permission denied errors. It turned out to be a corrupted user profile, so I got that fixed. Now, finally, I’m running the second round of updates. I have been working on this system all day. :hourglass:

My condolences. It might be time to curl up with a book and a nice cup of tea. And cats, but that goes without saying.

Yeah, hate that… that’s stuff that’s supposed to happen to other people.

Would drilling a hole in your face actually work to reduce sinus pressure?

It works for busted blood vessels/bruises under toenails from what I’ve heard from marathon runners, so why not? Hold my beer and we’ll try it. Try to relax…

Probably not, but I have a list of people to volunteer for the clinical trials.

Depends on the drill bit really. A wood bit is likely to cause splintering, which would be bad, but a HSS or masonry bit should work well…

I wonder what a brad nailer would do. You’d have to pull the brad back out, but it shouldn’t splinter anything too badly. I don’t actually have anything going on sinusly right now, but someone next to me does and it’s causing flashbacks for me.

I wonder if the same needle they use for bone marrow samples could bore through. But more importantly would letting snot out actually fix the issue?

Why do you have drill bits made of wood?

I think he means bits designed to drill in wood.

Otherwise he’d also have a bit made of concrete, which would be even odder.

Yes. It’s called trephining, and I almost got to do it on a horse once. But then the antibiotics worked. It’s a real thing though… Biggest thing is to know where you are aiming as there are many nerves overlaying the bones that are in charge of running your face, and if you damage them you can cause major problems…

It’s also a great way to get the Insects from Shaggai out of one’s head, should you be in a Lovecraftian (actually Ramsey Campbell) vibe…

See, I thought trepanning was for brain swelling.

Awesome. Maybe people in some places could get a lever to open and close it.
