He never quibbled if it was ribald.
He would devour, where others merely nibbled.
As the judge remarked the day he acquitted his aunt Hortense,
“To be smut, it must be totally without redeeming social importance.”

Tom Lehrer passed away at age 97. As a reminder, he released all copyright and ownership of his songs in 2022. The songs and transcripts are available for download on the Tom Lehrer Songs website.

Thanks you for reminding me of this - I’ll have to download everything when I get home tonight, before it goes away.

When I was caring for my dad before he passed away, we were scrolling through channels to find something to watch , and PBS was showing “Tom Lehrer: Live in Copenhagen”. I immediately went “oooh!”. Dad turned to look at me and said “I didn’t know you liked Tom Lehrer!” and I turned to him and sald “I didn’t know you liked him!”, and we proceeded to have quite an enjoyable time singing along with all the songs we knew.

Loni Anderson - I remember her in various roles, but not her most famous.

As a man of a certain age I am losing all the women who helped form my idea of what attractive women are, hell I’m even losing women I knew personally in high school. Some of them earlier than others, but now the younger ones are going. Kind of weird. Most of my manly man examples are long dead, having been a big fan of old war movies and westerns.

Had a talk with my youngest the other day how weird it is to know that certain things only exist in my head and how as you get older the number of people that know some things the way you do gets smaller and smaller. Hiking with my dad, walking to school in Cape Cod on an empty Air Force base, my Granny’s house. All exist only in my head now, some of them big momentous things, and others just footnotes. It’s weird. But the scary part is it’s getting less weird and more normal as more and more things become exclusive content.

For me, the thought is, “I’m becoming that old person who you can ask about how things were back in the “olden days”.”

Just got the new batch of 7th graders into my youth group last night. These kids were born with all the latest tech already existing. AI is how you do things, cars all have aircon, everyone has internet, and most of them have smart phones. And the home schooled ones are more socially adjusted than the public schooled ones because of home schooling pods.

This one hurts a lot. I met him a few times and he was just a lovely person, as well as an absolutely amazing actor.

From late August: Bill Long at 87. CEO of a company you may have heard of, but you rarely heard from him when he was CEO.

He started as a manager of a Boise, ID discount grocery store in 1968, a year after it opened. The store grew, opened more, and after the founder died in the 1980s, Bill helped the company transition from being privately-owned Waremart to employee-owned WinCo.

Officially, WinCo means “Winning Company”, but folklore turned that into an acronym for the first five states it was located in: Washington, Idaho, Nevada, California and Oregon. Now that they’re also in Arizona, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah, WWINNMCOAU doesn’t work.

Good place to shop at. Doesn’t require a yearly membership fee and doesn’t require you to sign up for a rewards card to get low prices. They frequently have shopping carts with a plexiglass cover at the entry to the store showing the items they bought at other places like Walmart and Fred Meyer, the list of the costs and total savings compared to WinCo’s prices.

A Winco is going to be opening here soon. They started construction a few months ago.

I love winco! Super cheap grocerys is a win for me

Co-founder of one of my favorite bands …

A reunion is definitely out of the question now. :frowning:

Just wait, now is when they’ll do it…. That always seems to happen. It’s like one member, or more than one, and the rest get motivated to get it done.

Robert Redford

One of his less known roles that I remember death in an episode of Twilight Zone.

I’m sorry for your loss, DB. Also, hi.

Hi back. Thankee sir. I only knew Shakie as Terri’s hubby, but my heart broke for her; they were tight knit. She’s doing okay. Resilience is woven into her. I’ve told her more than once, “I want to be you when I grow up”.
