Things you wish you could say (at work)

Dude. This is my first day back since 12/27/ I’ve been here all of 30 minutes and you’re already up my ass. I haven’t even finished wading through emails and new tickets.

Ma’am, we have been open for two business hours - TWO - and it’s the day after the holiday. No, we haven’t looked at the lab work that was sent to the lab after we closed the last day we were open. Yes you will get a call today. But you pick, which patient should we ignore? The seizing cat? The young dog with diabetes who is circling the drain? The cat that is laterally recumbent and in ketoacidosis? Maybe the dog who can’t move it’s neck? You let me know and I’ll pass your message to them, that your cat who had normal blood work needs addressed and not their literal emergency. Asshat.

Fyi the only creature still living is the one with a sore neck, and it’s not getting better. :unamused:

I am not crying in the nursing room at work bc I just euthanized one of my favorite patients owned by one of my favorite old lady clients. We have not done 20 euthanasias since 12/26. And I do not have to go back downstairs and start seeing normal shit and can just go home and sleep. :slightly_frowning_face:

We do not do graphic design. Why do we have Macs in an enterprise environment?

Thanks for leaving me hanging assholes.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

Not my best, but it gives the general gist of the idea :

Iteration 1 :
For want of overtime renumeration the sysadmin was lost.
For want of a sysadmin the RAID collapsed.
For want of a RAID the data was lost.
For want of data the company was lost.
For want of a company the contract was lost.
And all for the want of overtime renumeration.

Iteration 2
For want of overtime renumeration the full-stack developer was lost.
For want of a developer the progress on the application was lost.
For want of an application the contract was lost.
And all for the want of overtime renumeration.

edited to add : I have subscribed to Solidarity, one of the perks are legal advice. I have sent off an email asking them what my rights are regarding overtime pay above a specific salary threshold.

Just want to get all my ducks in a row before I start making waves.

How do the ducks handle the waves?

Stop being passive aggressive and just answer the damn question.

Why don’t you guys just tell everyone “rules for three, not for me”? Instead of putting in so much effort dancing around it.

You gave me, a remote tech, a network connectivity ticket. Did you leave your brain at home today?

If you want my help, you need to listen to what I’m saying. If I say “We should talk about this later”, it means we should talk about this later. If I say “We need to focus on what we’re doing”, it means we need to focus on what we’re doing. If I say “I don’t know right now if I can help you with that”, it means I don’t know right now if I can help you with that.

I’m willing to help you, but I think this is twice now I’ve had to say these same things to you and both times, they have been in front of the same customer who did not need to hear me saying these to you.

Jesus Tiberius Christ.
We’ve been trying to move/upgrade these datacenters for almost a year. We’re almost there. The new hardware is in place and tested for power and connectivity. We’ve been migrating VMs and storage for months. We’re starting one of the last steps to decommission the blades and chassis. Why is everyone at this stage working in a different ticketing system? Nobody knows who is in charge of what, which stage it needs to be at before they can do their work, half of the documented emails don’t work, fumbling around, skipping steps, cats and dogs living together … MASS HYSTERIA!
I have a very small part in this, virtual decom and signalling facilities which blades to pull. I have to contact 3 people to coordinate teams to handle this. I suggested using Teams so we could all talk together during the process, and although it sounds like a good idea, the datacenters are dark sites with no connectivity or communication devices permitted.
/me shakes head

Why did I come to this website again? Oh, yeah. I was building a ticketing system from scratch with no support for a unique clientele with specific needs to deal with the Georges in the system. This makes me mental.

OOPS ALL GEORGES

George is proud of his achievement, however small it may seem.

Don’t ever, ever think that us IT types are incompetent… you do not, and never will understand the :poop: we have to deal with on a regular basis.

Plus, if we drop everything and cater 100% time on your project, the office will grind to a standstill.

And guess what … outsourcing is not the answer, the new team will run into the exact same issues as we are, and chances are, they will outright reject working on windows7 installations.

So, all I want to tell you is to sip a hot cup of STFU.

Oh, our W-2s are available now? That’s nice, how do we get to them from a non-corporate computer? Since it’s SSO from M365 to ADP, and you require that any device used to log into M365 be enrolled in InTune, and I won’t be enrolling my personal computer, that won’t work. And USB storage is disabled on corporate PCs, so I can’t just dump the PDF to a USB stick. No, I won’t email it to my personal email, as that’s not secure.

As a desktop tech I have a USB exemption. Sounds like it may come in handy if my employer pulls similar BS.

Well, I guess I just won’t be submitting my tax forms this year. Buh-bye.

I think it’s more likely that someone just didn’t think things through when they opted for SSO

Making promises and forcing your colleagues to do things so that your promises are being kept does not entirely endear you at all…

FU.

Is it normal to have a laptop so locked down that you can’t turn DHCP off?
