Why does it always sound like you think I’m not doing any work around here, when I’m the only one who handles all of the day-to-day operations? Tickets, conference room setups, printers, inventory, follow-ups (half of yours you offload to me), I’m handling all of it so back off with the tone and start talking to me like I know what I’m doing. Because I’m sure you don’t know what you’re doing.
Okay, I get it. You have network security to worry about. But whatever it is you’ve got set up to run when you detect a new computer on the network is impairing my ability to do my job by slowing my laptop down by a factor of at least ten. It should not take over a minute for CTRL-ALT-DEL to get a response from Windows.

Why do you mix personal emails with your work emails? I don’t - I keep work emails strictly for work, and all personal emails is accessible via Gmail.
Surely you can also do the same?
And by the by, I will be implementing a new email policy soon… muhuhahaha
Accessing Gmail is using the internet for personal use, and is easily tracked by corporate. Using work email address for personal use is harder to find, and is generally more acceptable, like using the office phone to make a personal call.
Especially if corporate is just scanning for general usage, pinging gmail all the time for email shows up. Email to your spouse, if kept to reasonable levels, shouldn’t show up in traffic unless someone is looking for it.
I worked at a company that closely monitored email. They didn’t find it hard to do at all, mainly by blocking ay external email address, send or receive.
My work machine’s CTRL-ALT-DELETE response is annoyingly slow as well. Mostly annoying when I try to leave my desk to go do work and it won’t lock properly.

Most of my correspondence is with outside people. Same with my phone. I hardly talk to anyone in the office at all.
Well, it did include the sales department as well. We couldn’t even email the head office, the stores, or anyone in management outside our center.
That sort of defeats the entire purpose of email. All you’d need there is overly restrictive security and you’d have a complete IT fail.
Hah! When HQ found out that we were not allowed to access certain websites that we were supposed to be using as part of our job, the fecal matter hit the rotary air accelerator. That was the last time I was allowed to be on the conference call to test the network connections while HQ changed settings.
It was also the last time anyone at my level was allowed to speak to reps from HQ. The blocks on those websites were taken down… for two weeks.
Ah, those were the days, working for Darth Botox…
Company email is company property, so the company have full right to take any PC in for inspection and review just what allsorts are in that specific users’ Exchange mailbox…
Yeah, I think Woodman knows that, but he’s saying if anyone is monitoring mail use and Internet habits, a few emails from his work account to his wife would be lost in the clutter, whereas repeated trips to GMail would be more easily seen.
I don’t think in this instance he cares about the content.

Yup. Just like I don’t sit on here all day. I pop in and out. Which traffic is mixed in with my normal work surfing. Not that a concerted effort wouldn’t catch me using office internet for personal use, a glance at my usage wouldn’t be the end of the world. Not that I’m on here all that much in total. And while I make the occasional comment about how things are at my office, 99% of it I would repeat if asked, or if I thought someone should know or would care.
You don’t know how to do that after how many years working here?
