Yahoo! Glad you found something better, F10.
I really donāt give a f***.
Yay!! Thatās great news. Congratulations.
Hmmmmm⦠Do you work at the same place I do?
Dear $luser
No can do.
Cryptolocker locks your files away for good.
So get lost. Just be glad it was only your laptop and one shared folder on the server which got locked up tighter than a nunās wobbly bits.
There is no antidote, cure or fix for cryptolocker once it locks/encrypts your files. You either pay the ransom, do an rm -rf *, or restore from backups. There is NO OTHER way.
I hope youāve learnt your lesson, and that there is a reason for an IT policy for not installing other assorted *** and allsorts on your laptop.
TL;DR - luserās laptop got cryptolocker, it encrypted all her files, her home directory on the laptop, and a shared network folder. Luckily the automated backup was untouched. Of course she lost some photos. Boo-hoo.
Ooooooh. Nasty.
As my friend would say, that is a learning opportunity.

As my friend would say, that is a learning opportunity.
[/quote]And yet Iād be willing to bet that the luser doesnāt learn from it
A luser that learns is not a luser.
Okay⦠Really? You have no idea what day it is? You come in complaining about a user not being able to get into a system with a vague error. I tell you to screen shot the error (or at least write it down. Something! Help me help you!) and send it to the team since Iāll be leaving soon. You want to send it to me assuming Iāll fix it tomorrow. Itās Xmas tomorrow! Oh and you think Iāll do it Thursday? Iām out all week. Half of us are out all week! Itās the holidays!!! Did you not notice all the closed doors and turned off lights in the hallway on the way over here?
What is so hard to understand about ānon-alphanumericā? It means not a letter or a number. 1 is a number. N is a letter.

Hey, donāt you go trying to confuse me with those technical terms, missy. Iām not a computer person. Thatās your job. Now make it work.
/sarcasm
Dear $Installation_Person
F you for taking the server room keys with and not leaving these in my deskās drawer as agreed on. Now I can do nothing except wait for you to come and deliver said keys as I canāt get hold of $Boss for a spare key set.
Serves you right for messing up your monday and mine. I planned to be bright and early so that I can start patching in the patch panel after a server room refurbishment, but it seems we now have to wait for you.
GAH.
I think I might find your words of praise about how well weāre doing with catching up on our workload a little more inspirational if it hadnāt been preceeded by coercion by a different manager to do more work.
Dear $Bossly_Units
Outsourcing does NOT work. The last time the company tried it, they got fed up with the waiting time for the request to be finalized.
Now it seems that weāre set for another outsourcing round again (ignoring the lessons learnt from the first attempt)ā¦
Be my guest. I can assign tickets, but then it is out of my hands, and it wonāt help to apply pressure on myself to get things resolved, especially if the tech on the other side is taking his sweet time with doing things.
Furthermore, making it more crappier for myself may result in a walkout by myself. Then youāll have the joys of finding a replacement.
Comprehendo?
Outsourcing is just an inefficient way of clearing all the employees with too much seniority out of the office pool.
Whose bright idea was it to replace experienced site technicians with half-assed technicians?
I cannot work like this. Tonight Iām gonna update my resume/CV and start posting like crazy.
Letās see you guys get by without an experienced IT adminā¦
Half-assed technicians cost much less. Their ability to do the job is irrelevant. If you think about it from a manglement point of view, it makes sense. Otherwise it just makes your brain hurt.
Do an analysis of how much down time costs vs. how much savings in payroll is.
Flip a coin, give it a shot. Then just hire another crew later at 70% the wages of the old one, with better certs.
