Things you wish you could say (at work)

There is an order to things. Best not to skip ahead.

Yep. Waiting for them to confirm before I hand in my resignation.

Congrats, @Ook!

I love working late.

I don’t, but at least I can do it from home today.

A counteroffer? How quaint.

Too little, too late.

After trying the coffee machines at work, I wish I could find the person in charge of coffee machines and scream the following directly into their ears:

Why the fuck are you serving us Tesco fucking value coffee with no fucking options for fucking nice coffee when there are seventeen varieties of fucking tea!?

Because seriously, as much as I absolutely adore my new job, the coffee fucking sucks.

Is the tea good?

Seems to reinforce the impression I have that coffee isn’t very popular over there.

I don’t drink tea, but I hear it’s passable. Coffee here is like Marmite, you’ll have people who love it and people who hate it (that was even Marmite’s slogan for a while; “You love it or you hate it”).

I happen to be one of those people who likes coffee black and unadulterated, so poor quality coffee seriously brings me down. But now I know that there is no rule against bringing your own drip-feed machine and since I’ll be in tech, I’m sure everyone will love me for bringing one in

Does mean having to get one that’s approved and PAT’d (Portable Appliance Test, a safety test to ensure an appliance is grounded and electrically safe). But that only costs like £15 to get done so… mmm coffee.

Thanks

Sometimes a steaming cup of machine urine is the best you can hope for.

I always think it’s a mistake to make a counter-offer.

People rarely change jobs solely for extra money. It may be a factor, but there are usually quite a few other factors like boredom, job dissatisfaction, not enough challenge etc.

If you make a big enough offer to entice them to stay, you’ve only addressed one of the factors. The chances are that the person will be moving on anyway in a few months time once they realise that the extra money doesn’t compensate for all the other things.

This is exactly why my company doesn’t make counter offers.

It’s also why taking a counteroffer is usually a bad idea.

And another counteroffer. (No, seriously.)

No thanks. Get lost. Piss off. Kthanxbai.

Why yes, I think a doctor’s meeting where we sit down and discuss all the problems we are having with each of us will be so productive. I mean, why would you want to sit down with each person individually to discuss the issues and shortcomings they have when you could do it as a public flogging?

Nothing good can come of this…

Me thinks they’ve realized how badly borked they be.

Have they even read lord of the flies?

5 weeks. 5 WEEKS your team has had this and your team’s solution is the same frackin’ update to the same 4 lines of code I told you to make 5 weeks ago. What the serious **** have you been doing for the last month?

Someone asks us if we can share content to the participants in a video conference we’re taking part in and your first response is WebEx? Seriously? You know darn well our systems can share over the codec, which requires nothing more than plugging in the video cable and tapping “Share” on the touch panel.

WebEx means an extra screen will need to be carted to the room, which of course you don’t mind being done since you’re not going to be the one moving it there, you brain-dead jack@ss.

Spoke to a techie in employ - they’re not happy either. So is lots of other employees. And manglement lives in lala land.

Rats. Sinking ship. That is what is coming to mind.

Just glad I found another job. It is not sysadmin, but more in the line of software support, something I am willing to give a serious bash.
