Things you wish you could say (at work)

Dear $Manglement

See what happens when you’re willing to pay? I will bend over backwards to help.

If you don’t pay, then I will be inclined NOT to help, and have some other sucker do the job. Simple as that.

I’d be tempted to print out the email and read it to them, word for word.
Ok, so yeah, I’ve actually done that, along with going down the hall, returning with the service manual, and reading specifications to them. (usually happened with copiers)
I could be kind of a dick when I was younger (ok, yeah, still now, too, at times), but it wasn’t like I was making things up just to inconvenience the sales team. “Yes, the more expensive one does feature X, while the cheaper model does not do feature X… that’s part of why one is more expensive.” (DUH!)

Our server room gonna give birth to one. Soon.

Wish Manglement will keep to their word and get new servers for us, I cannot go on like this anymore.

With any luck, you soon won’t have to! Good luck today, though you’re probably already there…

I’ve bodged cludged assembled quite a few frankenservers in the (thankfully) distant past - my sympathies are with you. My favourite was the one with the 80mm fans pushing (from memory) about 65 CFM each - 2 pushing and 2 pulling. That sucker was loud.

No, that’s OK. You really don’t have to document your fix for that issue or how it’ll impact the 3 dozen other places we use that same function.

I forward you an email about a ticket with all the info about it included inside. And the first thing you ask me is “What’s the ticket number?”. Nevermind that the ticket number is on the subject header of the email. Nevermind that the official ticket resolution email is included in the email tree, which also includes the ticket number. Nevermind that you have access to the ticketing software so you can search a user’s name to see if any tickets were created recently for them.

You’re really on a roll this week. It’s like your brain decided to go on vacation.

Sounds like you work for a moron. Sorry, bud.

It’s a pain I have to live with. Kind of a shame because he’s a nice guy, but he absolutely sucks as a supervisor. In no way should this guy be in charge in charge of anyone.

I don’t talk in sound bites. Most of the time, I don’t talk in just sentences, either. I talk in paragraphs. However, you seem to think that a conversation should follow this pattern:

I say one sentence. You say one sentence. I say one sentence. You say one sentence. I say one sentence. You say one sentence. I say one sentence. You say one sentence.

But sometimes it isn’t even that. It’s I say one sentence. You say one sentence. I start to say one sentence and then you cut me off so that you can start talking over the top of me. i try to say another sentence and you cut me off again. I try another time to say something and you cut me off again.

My respect for you is inversely proportional to how rude you are to me.

I don’t think you are making a big enough deal about what I achieved.
This piece of code that was taking 37 hours to run is now taking 2 minutes.
I know I’m being smug and self-satisfied, but I think I’ve earned it.

I’d say something that runs 1,110x as fast is worth crowing about. Any way to translate that into money? As in, “we had employees waiting for this to run and now we don’t”?

Well, not directly. But indirectly, yes. The better our reputation the more work we will get from them.
My original assignment with this client was for 5 days. I’ve now been here for a total of 6 weeks, with another 2 weeks guaranteed, and probably more after that as well.

I’ve had a couple of times when I’ve saved them money - for example a supplier quoted $10k for some work and I completed it in 30 minutes.
After I finished the work I said I’d only charge them 10% of what the other supplier would, but they refused to pay it … sigh.

Dear $Mangler

You asked me to supply you with documentation and screenshots, which you’ll tidy up before passing on to our field techs. I’ve sent the requested, and have asked a day or two later what the status is.

At this moment a lot of people is on my back because of your tardiness. Fortunately I could send a screenshot proving that I did indeed email the documentation to you.

Now I need to go to site to fix the crap. Joy of joys.

Kindly piss off, kthanxbai.

Can you undo the fix?

I didn’t waste the entire morning trying to figure out why I couldn’t log on to the databases with my new password that you insist I change every 30 days.

BTW, don’t use a semicolon as the special character requirement. It really messes with the connection string.

Are you fscking kidding me? You want to swap the desks of two people who are literally on opposite sides of a cube wall because they’re on different teams within your department now? Why does this company insist that everyone on a certain team within a department all have sit next to each other? It’s 2016. We have email and IM. I’ve lost track of how many of these BS moves myself and $Cow_Orker have done in the roughly 2.5 years I’ve been employed here.

More joy to the world. Gonna file this for use at a later stage. Muhuhahaha.

Moves sued to keep me busy at old job. Well, as much as anything.

That place also did the annual-ish restack where everyone played musical cubes for no real reason beyond someone in charge thinking it was a good idea.

Take this job and shove it!

Oh, and while you’re at it, here’s my resignation too.

I QUIT.

got the letter of offer, signed it and sent it back, waiting for confirmation.
