Things you wish you could say (at work)

I did not have to cast a Lazarus spell at work yesterday. Everything was fabulous and low-stress. And I’m relaxing today and not wondering how my patient did overnight.

I used my super long lasting Lazarus spell. Everything is back to normal. :confounded:

RIP Callie. Wish we could have figured out what was going on in time to fix it…

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that you lost a patient. That’s never easy.

It was horrible. We were so excited to maybe have found the problem, then she literally died while I was touching/holding her in recovery, then I had to do a heart stick with epinephrine (think Pulp Fiction, for realsies) to get her back, then I monitored her for like 2.5hrs, and then had to help mom decide what level of care she wanted long-term to maybe get full recovery. She was slowly improving last night but just couldn’t do it. I’m sore it wasnty fault, as she was really sick and if we didnt do the surgery she for sure would have died, but it’s just so sad and frustrating… And draining when you have them go from alive to dead to alive to comatose-like to fairly ok-ish to dead. And on top of it all, the owner isn’t even mad at me. Or sad with me, or anything. For some reason that makes it even more irritating for me, and i don’t know why…

Coming from someone who lost my two best friends last year (anniversary of their deaths were July 5 and August 30, so I’m still fresh off revisiting the emotions :broken_heart:), who I had for fifteen years, since they were literally newborn puppies, eyes not even open yet…
Please, please, please know that Callie’s owner sees that you did all you could do and that it affects you, and don’t let that aspect of the situation get to you. Unless they’re cold and unfeeling, which would be just wrong. But baring that, they are probably understanding of the reality, and possibly in shock, which I’m sure you already know, but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to hear it from someone else. :purple_heart:

P.S. Sorry, it took me a little while to compose that.

Sorry to hear @MSUAlexis

It is not easy

Thank you. Callie’s mom is a great, understanding lady. I just feel like I failed her, and Callie, by not being able to figure things out sooner. And since I’m angry/irritated with myself, it’s hard to understand why she isn’t too.

Yeah I’m just going to step out of the middle of this pissing contest until the two of you can get on the same page about what you want me to do for this project.

Just move your servers over to new public IP’s and assume IT will be at the ready to update DNS records for your convenience.

(note to self - switch cellphone off over weekend, battery’s gone flat durr)

aww shame, DNS propagation taking too long?

Who in their right mind implement a system change (impacting critical systems) on a friday afternoon?

Oh, right, manglement.

See post above re cellphone.

One of our vendors rolled out a major system update Wednesday night. While most of the company is at their annual user conference/summit.

Never roll out any kind of system or software update on a Friday.

“But, what if I need to …”

OMG, NO!

I did not leave my Bluetooth headset in my slacks last night when I washed them and I was very productive while holding the cell phone against my ear as I worked. I did not have to place an emergency order for yet another of the headset model that I like best because of its design. This is not the fifth or sixth one I’ve drowned the same way over the past several years. On the other hand, the stylus for the smartphone is very clean and shiny!

Which one is it? I’ve been using a Plantronics Marque for several years. It has been so good that, when Fry’s had refurbed Marque 2 headsets on sale for like $20, I had my stepson pick one up for me (as a backup) when he was over that-a-way. I was really expecting the first one to have died by now, but it still goes all day on a charge. Should not be a surprise, really, though, because my last one was still working when I retired it after 5 years. I think some dirt had gotten into the sound tube for the microphone, so it wasn’t as sensitive as when it was new. Since it still worked, I gave it to someone who’s phone had starting acting up and they were still using it when I lost touch with them.

It’s the Motorola H730. It rests on the outside of the ear rather than poking into it, so it’s more comfortable for me, and the flip-out mic means it’s pretty compact when it’s not in use. One of these actually did survive the trip through the washer. Somehow the battery didn’t short out. I wonder if that’s the one that went missing for a day or two and I found I had driven over it as I was leaving or entering my driveway.

Ahh, gotcha. My first Bluetooth headset was a Motorola of that style, I think maybe a 710? I always liked the flip out mic on/off functionality. But I found that I often needed to push it against my ear to hear over background and street noise. I think I’ve been spoiled by the tiny size of my Plantronics, too.

Fine

If you think I am fudging the server’s RAID in order to score new hard drives for myself, then by all means you can take over the management and monitoring of ALL of our servers yourself, and you can have fun with it.

kthanxbai.

What I actually said was

Servers and hard drives need to be replaced at least 2 years on a regular basis, or else you will be courting disaster with catastrophic data loss.

If it makes you feel better, my Sennheiser headphones fell into my dinner one day last week. Had to wipe’em clean and probably didn’t get 100% of the sour cream, salsa, or slow-cooked pork juice out of them.

Can’t say anything about the electronics, but the food sounds delicious.
