The threat of monitoring always works.
She normally just needs a nudge here and there and she was still spending as much time looking like she was working. Monitoring her didnât help.
Turns out she was just staring blankly at a screen and panicking about what to do next, for 5-6 hours a day.
When they get to that stage itâs almost impossible for them to get out of it without help. Hopefully youâve caught it in time for her to get that help.
She caught a class and a half up today. She was just so buried she got analysis paralysis on what to do next. My dad suffers from clinical depression and I donât think sheâs there, she just got stuck, though Iâm prepared to do something more if we need to.
Ooof. Can relate. That happens to me often even now. Iâm much better at dealing with it now but I still find it hard when I donât have a clear direction.
It is difficult to say what is propaganda and what is not, what with all sorts of news flying around.
Some notable examples :
- the flare-up of COVID-19 in China. Propaganda or not?
- President Ramaphosa doing Christian stuff
etc etc.
Oh Goebbels, what have you done?
My closing costs didnât double. My proceeds didnât drop by several grand. I donât have to scramble to close these loans. Itâs all smooth sailing from here and Iâm going to sleep like a baby.
Yikes, but Iâm glad it is done. My step-son just bought a house, and had last minute heartburn, too⌠supposed to close two weeks ago, then last Friday, then Saturday, actually went to a closing on Monday but then the numbers were not what was agreed on (that kind of crap never goes in your favor), so he had to scramble to get a cashierâs check cancelled and direct wire a larger amount. Freakinâ unbelievable. But theirs is done, too, as of, like, 11am this morning. Helping him move most of his stuff tomorrow after work.
I havenât been able to close yet. In fact, my buyer just got around to their appraisal yesterday. I canât take this stress on top of work crap. I found a few thousand in costs that were just wrong, and can probably scrounge the rest together, but then I have no safety net again. Plan to talk to the loan advisor about reworking the mortgage with some different terms. Just annoyed that they gave me such bad numbers because I would have negotiated differently with good ones.
OK so Iâve never bought a house. Whatâs the point of closing costs? It seems like it just âbecause fuck you, thatâs whyâ.
I had no trouble sleeping last night. I got a good eight hours and I donât have a raging headache this morning.
~or~
I didnât have to get up for work this morning so I was able to sleep in and make up for a bad nightâs sleep.
I think some of it is all the fees to make sure the sale is legal. Keep in mind that a house sale often involves at least three parties, maybe more (and Iâm counting couples as a single party here). The buyer, seller, any banks involved, etc. As well as the company that does the closing. You donât want to hand over tens of thousands of dollars and find out you bought a house that wasnât actually for sale or similar weirdness.
Buying a house is definitely stressful. My wife remembers me doing all the paperwork (We werenât married at the time and, legally, the house is all mine) while she made jokes and talked about travel with our real estate agent. They got a Stern Look from the closing officer (canât remember the job title) who was busy trying to explain the debt I was now in and how the seller (and sellerâs bank) were basically done with each other (it was a Short Sale situation). The closing officer is a lawyer/accountant as I understand and it is a somewhat specialized job.
It also pays for a title search, title insurance, and the time and place the closing takes place in.
And a lot of it is due to the sheer amount of paperwork involved. Most of which is legal documents saying youâve seen the other legal documents, and then signing off on signing them, then initialing that youâve signed off that youâve signed off on seeing the documents.
Now, theyâve streamlined a bit from 20 years ago, but there is also more of it. OTOH, if something is wrong or mis-signed they usually can print another one right then and there where it used to be that would generate a whole other level of paperwork.
Yeah, pretty much what they said. I finally got a listing of the costs and they totally screwed some of them up. Charged me the transfer tax on my purchase when thatâs a seller cost. Accidentally were charging nine months prepaid insurance instead of two. Same with property taxes. So thatâs all been addressed and magically $5k of costs are no longer my responsibility.
But I managed to get them to rework the loan and now I will be able to cover it all with my proceeds and can do my kitchen as soon as I want!
I did not wake up before my 4:15am alarm. 90 minutes before my alarm. And I was totally able to get right back to sleep⌠

Woodpeckers arrive to start banging on the drain pipes between 0515 and 0615 every morning. It was on the early end of the spectrum today.
Advice from my buddyâs cousinâŚ

(He really is my buddyâs cousin.)
Protected by state and federal laws. I do go out with the pellet gun to plink at the target frequently in the mornings to discourage them. Itâs very tempting to have an unfortunate mishap.
I hear ya. My grandfather had a low power BB pistol to scare off the neighborâs cat that used to like to urinate on his basement window. The gift that keeps on giving.
Clarice did not take off into the woods this morning and run free for twenty minutes while we tried to find and catch her. The thick, muddy, bug-filled woods.
