Company asked its workers to continue working from home.
Nice. Saving a lot on fuel etc. And no more wasting time in traffic either.
Good stuff.

Filled up the car for the first time in a month for $12.
Woohoo, just got āmoderatedā on Quora.
Some idiot said that Trump was the best president in their lifetime and I commented that they write amazingly well for a 3 year old
Went out and split my hive and introduced a new queen to the second hive. My mentor was with me but I did all the work. I didnāt have an issue until I forgot to breathe at the end.
My new monitor speakers arrived the other day and they sound wonderful. Listening to music (even mine) and it sounds so much better than what I had. Plus, they have two sets of RCA ins, so I can have the computer sound going AND another audio source (my Behringer synth at the moment) and theyāll both play through at once without any switching.
At first I was like isnāt speakers on your monitor so 1998?
Iāve been considering a set of ārealā speakers, but keep saying it makes more sense if/when we move. Right now if I want to have loud content when Iām not he computer itās the big āover the earā headset (Or the āHelicopter pilotā style as I call it) as the best choice. But I have everything routing through a little Fosi-branded DAC that has several inputs to choose from:
And then it outputs to either rear-panel audio to speakers (which I donāt have) or front to headphones. Main reason I donāt use it more right now is the front panel is headphones only, no microphone⦠So I need to rig up a secondary solution for audio in, and ended up getting a $20 cheap USB DAC for when I need the full headset live.
Fun audio toy, though. My ideal āhome officeā would probably have monitors similar to yours set up on a shelf or corner brackets. Right now I only really use the audio once a year or so when we have people over and thereās a party adjacent to my desk.
Probably the next purchase should be a mixer because Iāve got a lot of different things playing together nowāor they could be. The studio proceeds, one piece at a time.
Starting the long, slow process of kicking out Symantec and installing Sophos, which integrates with our Sophos firewallā¦
What exacerbates the fact is work from home⦠I have to make a plan to get the new AV deployed remotely somehow.
Direct deposit. The people who run the college have been incredibly resistant to direct deposit, and have refused to move over to it during the fires and other emergencies, requiring employees to either come in to pick up paychecks or get paid late during times when they really shouldnāt be going in. It took COVID-19 to finally get them into the 21st century.
I got my first paycheck by direct deposit today.
Seriously? Iāve had direct deposit for my entire working life - about 37 years - and your work is only just doing that now? Iām glad they are finally doing it, but absolutely flabbergasted that in this day they havenāt done it before now.
Me too. Iāve been requesting that they join the 21st century since I started working there 4.5 years ago.
20th century. That was definitely 20th century technology ![]()
Ehh, you could make the case that it was ahead of itās time. Electronic deposit when most people were still kiting checks for days and electronic deposit was almost the only thing you could do electronically.
But, yeah, Iām surprised they wanted to deal with it, except for the control it gave them. I still get physical checks, but Iām 1099ād and not a full time employee at a 5 person shop.
Yeah, I guess Iām talking about New Zealand here, in which the small country size is a decided advantage in this particular instance. Direct deposit was the norm for white collar work when I started work around 1983.
Heh, talking about direct deposits⦠my first job I got cash on payday.
Then they moved to direct deposit after a robbery on payday.
Second job, third job etc etc - all direct deposits.
Yesterday was May 5th. If you write it as 05052020 and then put a mirror just above the numbers, it almost becomes a palindrome.
You could probably make it into am Ambigram. I think we had a brief CoG fascination with them a couple forevers ago based on them being big in one of the Dan Brown books.
Signed papers for this place. Friday will sign for the new place. So close!
