What Made You Happy Today?

Whatever respiratory infection I got five weeks ago has finally cleared up. No idea what it was, but it made me cough up green stuff every morning. I’m bothered why it took so long to clear up too. Part of me hopes it’s not because I’m getting older.

I was able to swoop in and rescue my friend today. Apparently her husband had been trying to get their taxes done for the last 4-5 days and was getting so frustrated that he was taking it out on her. I went over to her place, Got their 5 pieces of paper (W-2s and a 1099), created a TurboTax account for them and got them done. She still ended up paying a fair amount because they didn’t have their deductions setup right and weren’t getting nearly enough taxes deducted from their paychecks, but I saved them about $400 even after paying for TurboTax and filing online.

Sounds like a variety of bronchitis.

Oh yeah, I’m sure it is. Chronic kind too, because it always comes back eventually.

The Letters Live channel has many examples of well-written letters, which might be on its way to becoming a lost art. They’re even better when read by celebrities. Here is Chiwetel Ejiofor reading “possibly the funniest letter of recommendation ever”.

I just pushed the button for dakwife’s final student loan payment.

Dakson starts college in the fall.

Youth camp this weekend. It was a great time and I feel like I’m making an impact on the Middle Schoolers I’m working with. As it’s church camp they are getting their fill of religious instruction, but I really like to push the secular reasons for some behaviors.

Prayer is a method of listing and verbalizing a list of issues you are dealing with. As well as an opportunity to unplug and recenter.
Most general Christlike behaviors are considered positive behaviors; forgiveness, understanding, gentleness, etc…
They are much better off building each other up rather than tear each other down. (I make a joke of it, but the “Yes King!” movement is an opportunity to start habits) I’ve got a group of kids that only get compliments from their mothers, and sometimes dad. They need to support each other and others.
The importance of both peer group and more experienced advisors. Maybe asking your group of 12 year old friends about sex, or relationships shouldn’t be your only solution to problems.
Also the importance of accountability.

So, even if they don’t stay in the church, which I hope they do, they will at least hopefully not abandon all the lessons.

Getting a handle on my blood pressure. It is now responding better to medications and specific food.

There was a stage when it did not respond at all… and I thought it was time for stronger meds…

One of these days I’ll be able to be off BP medications.

That’s excellent news!

It’s Friday.
The night skies are clear, so the telescope is outside and imaging. After resolving all the problems I was having with it, I’m really happy that it’s working like it’s supposed to.

Happy to find out that raw garlic is one natural product that also helps with blood pressure.

It now means that I’ll have more garlic in my food, and if the smell bothers people, too bad for them. They’ll have to get used to it.

Need to get a small notebook and start a food diary.

Garlic is delicious. Just don’t feed it to your birds. It’s toxic to birds.

You could try steaming the garlic, too. It removes the smell but leaves all the nutrients untouched.

At least it’s cleaner than before

George has a cousin. His name is Clive. Let’s get to know him:

Some Problems Tend To Stick Around, Part 2
From Not Always Right, Working category

I’m a new hire at a tech support department. During my orientation, I am warned of a user called Clive. As part of my training, I am given access to his user profile and told to read the notes linked to each of his tickets. There are… a lot.

Ticket #4287
User: Clive S.
Issue: “Won’t let me print. Says ‘offline.'”
Response: “Printer was not plugged in. Again. Considering replacing the printer with crayons and telling Clive it’s a creative workflow update.”

Ticket #4505
User: Clive S.
Issue: “Laptop won’t turn on. Tried yelling at it.”
Response: “Power button located. Laptop now on. Clive demanded a ‘voice-activated’ model, citing that he talks to his Alexa at home all the time.”

Ticket #4830
User: Clive S.
Issue: “I keep getting pop-ups telling me to ‘click here.’ Should I click?”
Response: “Asked Clive to stop installing every toolbar that offers him free weather updates. At this point, his browser has more toolbars than screen.”

Ticket #4865
User: Clive S.
Issue: “Excel is broken. It keeps doing math.”
Response: “Explained that Excel doing math is, in fact, not a bug. Clive said, quote, ‘I didn’t ask for this.\ Same, Clive. Same.”

Ticket #5080
User: Clive S.
Issue: “Outlook froze, so I restarted the entire computer. Now I’m locked out.”
Response: “Clive updated his password, forgot it instantly, and rebooted mid-sync. Outlook likely froze in self-defense.

I thought these were all humorous jokes, like a way to haze the newbie.

Three days later, I get a call:

Caller: “Hi, this is Clive S. How do I send this email to everyone and only some people at the same time?”

I spoke to Clive at least once a week after that. I was honored to add my ticket notes to the pantheon of Clive-isms.

Watching my last daughter walk across the stage to get her high school degree. Finished 20th in her class, with 350 students total. Starts nursing in the fall. I am going to miss her so much, but cannot wait until she’s out of the house. Least defiant of the three, but sometimes the highest maintenance, which is at least partially our fault, she has been learning the last couple years as she’s gotten more independent that the world owes her nothing.

My best friend reminded me of a picture that he’d modified for me about 15 years ago. The original (that I shared with him) was taped to a light standard with a picture of a dog. My buddy replaced the picture and changed the wording slightly. It makes me laugh.

Good lord. That hair.
