Was told by someone high up in the company that my boots on the ground knowledge and troubleshooting skills are appreciated and something they wish more folks at my level had. Might lead to being able to share both beyond just the local area.

Finally got all of the content restrictions ripped out of daksonās phone so he can install the apps he needs
I received a personal weather station this past Christmas.
It is finally set up and active.
Will you take photos and give us a walkthrough?
Iām interested in havening one as well (when I have the moneyā¦)
Not much to walk through. I received this as a gift for Christmas, found (made) a spot out back of my house to mount it, and followed the instructions to set it up. The hardest part was getting it onto my WiFi network as it only does 2.4GHz and my Velop was broadcasting both 2.4 and 5 on the same SSID; I had to change one of the SSIDs so I could tell the difference.
Iāve had to deal with that for a lot of my smart home stuff. I even helped the tech for my heating system figure it out and now THEY know that their thermostats only connect to 2.4 GHz.
Managed to get the brakes on my 2003 Corolla replaced (pads & rotors) for under $475 today.
That was less than half of the other quote I had.
Can you feel the excitement?
I can do front pads and rotors no sweat. My rotors still are good, just slap on new pads all the way.
Rear brakes⦠I tried it once⦠and once only it will remain. Itās those drum brakes.
Had to replace 4 tyres last week⦠the price was horrible - but it either was new tyres, or a fine/hydroplaning/whatever and which would be more expensiveā¦
At least it drives nicely now⦠and the spare tyre is a bit better - it was replaced with one of the better tyres.
Brave browser. No more pesky youtube advertisements.
I got a good slot for the semi-annual employee sale today and managed to score some really nice merch at ridiculous prices.
Love Brave. I pay for lots of shit, but when Iām listening to random music in the shop I donāt want to listen to a full ad.
Also, the shop remodel is getting near the end. Expect a photo dump soon.
Had a pretty good string recently of recognizing the music being played in various places:
- Kenny Gās āSongbirdā as hold music.
- On the overhead speakers at one location: a slow-tempo cover of āWaiting for a Star to Fallā by Boy Meets Girl.
- At the same place: a slower-tempo acoustic guitar version of āLove Theme From St. Elmoās Fireā. This took the Instrumental version, transcribed it to feature the guitar and played it at the speed of the For Just a Moment vocal version.
I got to see a Canadian Goose up close. It slowly walked up to where I was sitting and stopped at my feet. Itās among the many that stay around this location and itās more than a little used to humans.
I know geese can be aggressive, so I just kept mostly still and looked at it as it looked at my hands. I donāt know if it thought I was holding food. I guess my cell phone might look like a sandwich in shape if nothing else, but I hope this bird hasnāt been eating any black rubber sandwiches. Then it was looking more at my fingers as they moved while typing on the phone, so that opened up the question of if it thought my fingers were the food.
Someone came out the door and the goose decided that was a good time to slowly shamble away.
I didnāt even think about getting a picture of it, but I also didnāt want to test how serious they are about the āno photosā rule at this place.
Rush is going back on tour. Their new drummer is Anika Niles. I donāt need to give her credits. Theyāve chosen her.
Rush Fifty Something Tour 2026.
I have had an Acurite Atlas for awhile. I pulled out an old Apple Express router and used it to extend my Eero network and that seems to work fine.
Garrison Keillor is still going strong with more shows of A Prairie Home Companion 50th Anniversary. A recent show from September 7 was recorded and broadcast today on KANW in New Mexico. There will be a repeat at 3pm Mountain Time tomorrow if you want to listen to it online.
I donāt know how many other of his traveling shows have been recorded. Iām a little surprise that the 50th Anniversary is still going on about 2 years after the actual anniversary. But in this one, I found out that Tom Lehrerās ā(Iām Spending) Hanukkah in Santa Monicaā had been an unfinished song until Garrison relayed encouragement to Tom to complete it so it could be featured on APHC.
Part of this one is also available on YouTube: āCalling My Children Homeā, sung in memory of the school shooting at Annunciation Catholic School on August 27, 2025.
daksonās competitive rocketry team/club at college selected his nosecone design for this yearās rocket. Out of 200 teams, only 10 even design their own in the first place (the rest buy one off the shelf). Heās only a first-semester freshman.
I registered for a Romance writers conference the weekend after this one, including two masterclasses (one on writing Romantasy and one on creating conflict in romance). And, because I waited until almost the last moment, I got to use the 25% off code the organizers sent out earlier this week.
On the days I cook breakfast, I have been using a larger pan for the scrambled eggs. Doesnāt work as well as it could because it goes on the only available burner, a small one. While looking for something else yesterday, I found its little sister. Iām going to verify Goldilocks makes the eggs just right.
