What Made You Happy Today?

My antibiotics are not kicking in, and I’m still miserable.

In-laws took my kids last night through Sunday afternoon. @Sunbeam and I went to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra in Seattle, then spent the morning cleaning the house without the kids helping, and now I have the afternoon/evening to continue cleaning. Or possibly play video games. One or both of those things will happen.

Video the clean games or clean the video games?

Watching the maintenance guys at the apartment while I’m at work. Technology is great.

I’m about to have two weeks leave. As soon as 5pm rolls around, anything broken at work is no longer my problem.

I was one of 10 lucky emails chosen to join the Great Illuminati. I have the opportunity of becoming rich and popular by joining the Great Illuminati Network.

What did not make me happy was waking up and finding out the water heater in the apartment is busted. Then again, that’s what maintenance is for. Lift with your knees fellas.

Discovering that the apple pies sold by KFC are similar to the apple pies McDonald’s used to sell before they changed them in 1992 from deep fried to baked. And finding a website that gives tips on making or finding those kinds of pies.

Note: that link that says “Here’s a website that’ll help you locate 'em” expired back in December. The Internet Archive snagged a copy earlier that month, so use list link instead.

Whataburger does those too.

Staying up late, sleeping in, taking a walk in the autumn sunshine.

I just got back from the Sakura Matsuri in San Francisco. There weren’t as many people as usual, but that’s not surprising, since it was also Easter today.

I had a lot of fun, but I’m kind of disappointed that the grand parade seems to be getting worse each year. Since when is a mob walking down the street become part of a parade? Where is the organization when you’re looking at an empty street for five to ten minutes before the next group comes along?

I took lots of videos, though, in case you want to see the condensed version. This year’s pictures start a little over halfway down.

My wife’s PRK surgery went well Friday, and today she is miserable, but that’s expected.

I got a brand new purse/tote yesterday. Coach. For 75% off. It’s freaking adorable I can’t even stand it.

Pherrell on the radio right before I got to work. Because I am happy.

It’s no longer Monday.

Blue Jackets tied up the series with the Pens at 2 last night! Even better, that means Papa John’s here in Central Ohio is doing half-priced online orders! No cooking tonight! More time to spend outside in the yard and in the sun! (For those in the area who care, the magical code is Jackets50).

Too bad Papa John’s has crappy pizza.

Pretty much all pizza that I can afford to feed my family of growing children is crappy. Theirs is the least crappy of the crappy. Youngest son, who turns 6 in 2 weeks, can eat half of a large by himself. Gourmet is not in our immediate future.

This may get me burned at the stake, but the Pizza Hut by my house makes perfectly serviceable pizza, provided you tell them what you want. We get the thin crust veggie lover’s pizza and tell them to leave it in the oven until it’s good and crispy, and 9 times out of 10 it’s great—crispy, crackly thin crust all the way through.

Doughy pizzas can die in a fire.

You can have all the crispy. I prefer doughy - not undercooked, but a foundation with more body than thin can provide.
Pizza Hut isn’t bad. Even though there are a couple other places, incl. Papa Johns, close to my sister’s house, if she is bringing pizza, she prefers the Pizza Hut by my folks house. She will drive past my folks house to pick it up from that Pizza Hut, then have to backtrack.

Agreed. I tend to prefer deep-dish or pan-style pizzas that have a bit more oomph to them than others. Can’t stand “crispy” pizza. Pizza should be floppy and greasy.

I just wish the Pizza Hut near me did delivery.
