I added a “feature” to the script that makes my job interesting to add the device ID to which the script is configured for in giant ASCII art 6 character by 5 row glyphs. Sounds totally useless, but it lets the guy who is running these scripts (also me) by pasting them into a terminal window see he’s loaded the wrong script and kill the terminal session before damage is done.
It makes me happy, and that’s important.

Was looking at the bus schedule, trying to figure out how to get to the car rental place, and I realized “I have a bicycle and that’s within the distance I normally ride when I go out.” Getting excercise plus saving bus fair equals a small “win” for the day.

I finally got the Nuka-Xtreme recipe in Fallout 4.
For those who don’t know the Nuka-World DLC for Fallout 4 there are various Nuka-Cola recipes scattered around that allow you to craft different flavors. Of course there is an achievement tied to this. Well the Nuka-Xtreme one doesn’t spawn where it’s supposed to for a lot of peeps (including me). It’s supposed to be on a table on a rooftop. Instead it spawns in the space between the rooftop and the ceiling of the room below. Since I’m not playing on PC where I can use console commands to clip through the wall that was a problem.
Everything I found online said that you can sometimes dislodge it with a big enough explosion. So I got my trusty rocket launcher and fired a bunch of rounds into the room from the outside. No dice. I googled some more and found out that people were having success by throwing grenades into a particular corner of the room on top of a piece of machinery that goes almost to the ceiling. I threw a grenade up there and the recipe flew right out the front of the building onto the ground where I promptly scooped it up and saved the game before any further shenanigans could take place. Now I don’t have to start another playthrough just to get the stupid achievement.

iPad & iPhone both survived the iOS 10 upgrade.
Now if I could just get all the apps updated from the store and the “Memories” feature to finish scanning my pics…
13GB of downstream data on my home internet connection today. iTunes update, 2 iOS downloads (one double size, as it was through iTunes), XCode downloading on the Mac prepping for Sierra (but that’s only been 1.26 GB so far). I only did 5.5GB yesterday.
In South Africa we have a wireless ISP called iBurst.
They use a screwy MTU of 1392, and not the default of 1500 or 1492…
Anyway.
I managed to get my Mikrotik all programmed for using either a 3G (USB) or iBurst (PPPoE via LAN) so that we can just plug in whichever we want to use.
The 3G is used for fast internet access, but it is a bit expensive.
iBurst we use for general internet usage as it works out quite cheaper. Both the Mikrotik and iBurst router are on solar power (12VDC).
After the initial setup I had an issue with accessing certain websites using the iBurst router, but on the 3G said websites will work 100%, so I knew it was an issue with the iBurst link. $Wife was moaning at me because of this.
I asked around on a local forum, and one forumite informed me that I need to set the MRU as well (it was on default of 1492). Changed the settings, and left $Wife to try it out for a whole week.
Yesterday I asked $Wife if the email issue still persisted, and she informed me that it is all good, she can now send/receive emails via iBurst. So now we can use the more expensive 3G airtime when we really need a good speed boost.
So I’m happy. Learnt something as well. Set MTU and MRU to the same value simultaneously.
Wait, 3G is the fast option? Is 3G cell service in your part of the world?
US internet is extremely variably, but in general cell service is slower than almost anything wired that isn’t dial-up.

What was thought to be lymph nodes was just a calcification.
The last 3 days have been absolutely the worst of my entire life.
So many thoughts went through my head. Externally I was upbeat
but it barely fazed my daughter. Internally I was doing what we all do,
picturing the worst case. It is SO true that we, as parents, would GLADLY take
any and all pain and sickness our children might endure.
I think we’ll go out for a Dairy Queen Blizzard to celebrate!

A couple years ago when my router died, I tethered to my 4G phone to research replacements. CrashPlan had a field day, uploading at 2-4 times its normal speed. TW upload sucks

We have spotty LTE coverage, it is still being rolled out.
At the moment I’m playing it safe with equipment set for 3G. Will get an LTE dongle (that is mikrotik compatible) and LTE-provisioned SIM some time next year.
As for 3G coverage, it also is spotty. If you’re lucky, you’ll get good speeds, otherwise you will play around with crappy EDGE/GPRS or, worse still, great signal but zero throughput.
I’m glad to be line of sight to a cell tower, got good coverage and speeds at our domicilium.
A mikrotik may be more hassle in setting it up, but it is infinitely more powerful than your standard SOHOpeless stinksys/dlink/chinese model of router.

New Company informed me that I will need to go to Cape Town/Stellenbosch for training on their POS systems. IQ-POS IIRC.
I’m happy as I may get the chance to meet some of my friends who lives in the Cape, as well as the chance to learn something new.
FWIW I started my career in IT doing a DOS-based POS system (ulti-sales) , should be interesting to see what differences there may be between those two POS systems.
