He’s been drinking 1:1 Soylent:formula this week.
If it wouldn’t disrupt the whole rest of the house, I’d let dakdaughter just scream her tantrums out without intervening.
Dakwife usually intervenes & attempts to reason with her after a while. Emphasis on “attempts”
Thankfully we’ve moved beyond screaming age Version I, and we have several years until Version II. Right now it’s mostly tears. Not that she won’t get mad or anything, but we don’t have baby yelling, and we’re not at pre-teen/teen yelling.
Dak, I don’t remember how old your daughter is but if she’s younger than about 4 attempting to reason with her is futile.
5 in a couple weeks.
Fixed that for you.
It is weird how I can sit there and let one of my daughters scream and cry and freak out and it doesn’t bother me, but my wife can’t take more than 30 seconds of it unless she’s mad herself. I’d rather that than the actually try to argue, which eventually gets me really ticked off.
I just saw @Lee_Ars’s article on Soylent version 1.4. Groovy!
@Lee_Ars , Sorry I am years late to the party but thank you for the entertaining read. I hope I can poke around more on the sites to catch up. Work has been a b@tch at times, plus life just seems to happen all too often.

Update: Siglet Secundus has been living on Soylent (no formula) for a few weeks now. We add some peanut butter and a splash of Hershey’s dark chocolate syrup (really, not much of either) and we make it about half as thick as it should be, but he likes it. Has simplified things enormously and he’s filling out some, not having to “eat” every 90 minutes, etc. I’d rather he start eating food, but I feel like we’ve bought ourselves some time.
I’m glad that is working out for you.
Maybe that will work until he is at an age where he responds to reason.
And suddenly, I am trying to think of an age where that is true.
Seriously: Soylent has simplified our lives enormously with respect to my youngest.
I can’t remember if I suggested this before, but you should write to Rob Rhinehart and let him know, @sig. He’s usually pretty responsive, and he may have some additional suggestions on how to make the mix even more kid-friendly (or palette-neutral).
I flavour my Soylent with Torani’s syrups. One tablespoon is enough to change the taste of a glassful. I have a bunch of flavours, so I can change it up each day.
Oooh! Do you have the vanilla cola one?
No, but I got their spicy kola nut flavour. Today was “almond joy” flavoured Soylent, with chocolate, coconut, and almond syrup.
So if you left out the almond syrup, would it be “Mounds” instead?
For “mounds” wouldn’t you need Goldschlager?
Exactly! I do that more often, since the almond syrup is actually pretty strong and tends to overpower the coconut and chocolate.
