Just for @MSUAlexis

I’m pretty sure this dog must have been watching the Peanuts specials and fell in love with Miss Othmar.

And one more. Three-legged dogs and cats do pretty well getting around. Turns out a two-legged cat ain’t doin’ so bad herself.

I wonder how she uses the litter box. It’s great that she has a good home.

I think this dog studied under Inigo Montoya.

I still haven’t watched the live action version of Lady and the Tramp. Here’s another tale of a tail from off the streets doing pretty good.

Pacha the dog: Hey, Silly! Wanna play? Wanna play? Wanna play?

Silly the cat: Nope, nada, couldn’t care less.

Pacha’s owners: Hey, Pacha. Look at this pillow with Silly’s picture on it.

Pacha: Oh boy! Best present ever.

Silly: Okay, I guess I’ll play with you.

For more than just this topic’s namesake. It sounds like this man’s father isn’t able to enjoy watching the mice any more, but it made both happy for a while and continues to make him happy on bad days.

That was so heartwarming. Thanks for the share!

Makes me pine for the days of our own SuicidalRat.

Dogs aren’t the only ones being capable of running a scam. Cats get in on the act, too.

How common are orange eyes in cats, especially when combined with black fur? I have no idea what breed this is.

Not common at all. I haven’t seen many at all in 20yrs

When You Know You’ve Truly Flopped As A Pet Owner

CONTENT WARNING: Animal Death

Back in the late seventies when I started my career, I remember this one woman who came in during my very first month practising:

Woman: “Can you check out my cat? He’s being very lethargic.”

She then proceeded to pull forth from the carrier a deceased cat and stare expectantly at me.

Me: “Um… yep, that’s pretty lethargic all right.”

Woman: “What’s wrong with him?”

Me: “Well, he’s dead.”

Woman: “Oh… really?”

Me: “How is it that at no point during shoving this poor animal into the carrier, driving it over, pulling it out, and so forth, did it not occur to you that maybe this was no longer a living creature?”

Woman: “Well… he’s usually a very floppy cat.”

She didn’t seem too distraught. Other than the cat being… well… dead, he was obviously a very senior cat and seemed well-fed; my guess was he just died of old age. I was just more shocked that the owner didn’t notice…

Yeah… We had someone bring us a dog once that was deceased. We told her, and she said she knew that bc the clinic she normally goes to had already told her that, but since we do urgent care she thought maybe we could do something to fix it. We had to tell her no (obviously) and offered her cremation options. She left. With her dead dog. I told the staff if only I had paid more attention in school and learned the Lazarus spell…

Speaking of dead cats, dogs (and possibly parrots), I want to trot out this favourite of mine :

For the days when you’re feeling down, the pure joy of a dog seeing their favorite humans return home.

I remember when I went to visit my sick kitten a long time ago. There was a dog in the next cage. It was friendly and paid attention to me, then suddenly went nuts when its person showed up. Very much like this.

My wife had to avoid the back room sometimes when Noodle was in the shop for something.

I get done mixing and pouring the concrete for new fence posts and I’m sore and I’m stiff, tenderly trying to walk. I make it to the computer, pull up YouTube and a cat that can’t even use its back legs puts me to shame.
