Random Musings (and associated non sequiturs) v. 3.0

There. That should do it.

Living in the future update.

I just bought three kindles for $52 after tax and shipping. Now, they are the ones with the keyboard, but it will work for taking books camping and stuff.

I might also take one and stash it in my bug out bag (When I get around to making one) with survival stuff loaded on it.

Wait wait wait what? You’ve had a Pixma series printer that’s lived more than 3 months!?

What sorcery is this!?

Seriously. I had three in a row in the space of six months. They are, without a doubt, the worst printer series in the world and yes, I am including the Konica D-series personal laserjets in that.

Yeah…Like I said, going on probably 8 years now.

The scanner doesn’t work in modern Mac OS X (but might be fixable if I messed with it) so the rare times I need it I change the cable to an older laptop. I’ve never gotten photo prints like they showed on the catalog, but it works.

Does it require Twain? If so… well… um… nope, can’t think of a solution off the top of my head. Although after a great many hacks I got a Twain scanner working great in Sheepshaver…

It might. I don’t scan that often anyway.

Listening to a guide on credit cards and airline miles. They go into ā€œallā€ the steps and reasoning to pick one…

But the first step is not, do you need a card?

There is a municipality of some type named West New York, located in New Jersey.

Seriously, why do people do this?

I used to live near Cincinnati, Indiana.

My favorite is Russiaville (Pronounced Rooshaville, cause we ain’t no commies!).

Someone please talk me out of an Amazon Echo Dot

Ohh, get one and then tell me if it’s worth it!

Can’t you chain those so they’ll all play the same music or something?

Wait, that’s not what you wanted… Sorry.

In other news my 2014 Captiva I got in August of 2014 has been rearended for the third time…

I think it’s time for a new car.And that was my first newish car ever.

My sister got rearended this morning too

I don’t think the Dot plays music itself. But it can be paired to a BT speaker and depending on the app(s) you’re using elsewhere, I believe you can transfer play from phone to Echo/Dot+BT speaker with a voice command or seamlessly.

My folks have an Echo and use it for fsckall. I probably wouldn’t get the Dot alone, I’d end up with the Dot plus an ecobee themostat. But then I’d need two Dots, one upstairs and one downstairs. But at least then dakwife wouldn’t have to iMessage me from upstairs to remind me to change the thermostat before I come upstairs at night!

TMI…

I got my wife flowers… it’s the first time I’ve ever had flowers delivered for her. I usually just show up at her office with them.

That awkward moment of confusion where I thought you mean British Telecom instead of bluetooth and wondered when BT started making audio equipment

Sometimes people’s inability to admit they’re wrong depresses me. One of my current life-goals is to be gracious when I post something incorrect to the internet and get called on it.

Something akin to ā€œPoe’s Lawā€ kicks in occasionally, though. People post a meme-pic of the format:

(False quote)
[Embarrasing pic]
(He/She/It/Schler Lies!/Is the Worst!/Licked my dog once)

But if you call them on it, the response is, ā€œLol, that was just a joke, I didn’t really believe he was a dog-licker!ā€

People believe everyone is a dog-licker these days.

I have also considered the following election-year social media experiment:

Post the following on Friday: "Attention! We all deserve a week from political sniping that accomplishes little. From now until Monday AM, any political discussion on my feed will result in an immediate unfriending of the poster. No exceptions.

And, importantly: Follow through. I think I’d lose some people. I have a few that wouldn’t pay attention, and a few that wouldn’t believe I’m serious. I would totally unfriend them. I might re-friend them in, say, mid-November, but sometimes you have to suffer to learn a lesson. I might enjoy the quiet, too.

Jesus. How expensive are programmable thermostats where you live?

We have one. But sometimes we’ll make an ad-hoc adjustment to the house temperature.

So I was watching the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie a couple of days ago and thinking about the scenes yesterday while doing some yardwork. Then a thought popped into my mind that is a thing Dave Barry has done in the past, which is picking names for bands. So here’s mine.

Would a name like The Yeasty Codpieces be a bad name or an awesome name if the band was a punk rock or death metal band?
