Things that suck

A co-worker had pneumonia Dec, recovered, just got RSV, and is now in hospital for at least 2 weeks with a horrible case of pneumonia.

I’m really worried about him.

Update, He is doing better, but now has a fistful of permanent health issues.

Some sort of dispute, now there’s email discovery.

Luckily I did due diligence and kept archived PST copies of mailboxes. Some emails go as far back as to more than 11 years.

Meh.

Lawyery types expect this info to be delivered before this week’s wednesday.

At least I’m almost finished with copying all the required data off to external HDD for their enjoyment. So glad I don’t have to slog through a mountain of emails.

Emails handed over to the lawyery types.

No more my concern.

Today is Last Day.
According to the Logan’s Run rules, I’ve reached DOUBLE Carousel and will be renewed twice.
Wish me luck.

Got an email from Autodesk today, informing us of somebody installed illegal software over a legal copy.

We didn’t. Draughtsman says he didn’t either.

All I can think of is that somehow specific information got compromised, allowing somebody to install cracked software with our product key OR that it was an old laptop which was purchased over a couple of years ago, but the other department’s IT team did not cleaned it out properly with the old CAD software on it, and somebody recently did an “upgrade” (it can happen that IT equipment “slips” through cracks no matter how meticulous you may be due to the human factor…)

Or it can be a scam. Anyway.

We will check our side first, and if everything’s kosher, we’ll take it from there.

Still in investigation. Not nice.

$5300 bill if we are not compliant. Ouch.

I remember when Autodesk started cracking down on that. That was back when I was still on their helpdesk.

It’s not a scam, we have verified with Autodesk.

So now we are trying to find the noncompliant device. :frowning:

Day four without phone or internet at home, and such spotty mobile I can’t use my cell as hotspot, much less dial into meetings on it. Apparently crews working on replacing a bridge over the major highway cut a bundle of fibre optic cables:

Updates have been almost non-existent and, when there are updates, they’re obviously a guess. Some sources are saying service may be out until next Monday at the earliest. I’m lucky (?) I have a physical office I can go into in order to work, except for tomorrow, when I have to be home to deal with contractors. My next-door neighbour, not so much.

Oh, and having streaming services with lots of choice is great, as long as you have internet access. Thank goodness Mr. TM and I still have tons of physical media we can watch (we’ve started watching Fringe again on DVD) and lots of books to pass the time in the evenings before bed.

Wow, I have cellular internet now, but at some point there has to be a landline out there in the chain. Can’t imagine the bill to fix that. I mean, you’d think someone would have noticed at some point.

Infrastructure as Code is the new enemy.
Automation is usually my jam. If there’s a way to get humans out of the equation for repetitive tasks, I’m usually all for it. However, it’s going to put a shit tonne of techs here out of work. Saying that it’ll free them up for more valuable work is bullshit. There won’t be enough quality work left.
If I had the depth of knowledge, I’d transfer to the IaC team today.
I used to write long and involved batch files and moved on to building program suites to automate certain processes for the many teams I have been part of. Unfortunately, I feel that I’ve been out of the programming game for too long to be able to pick it up again in the time I have left.

Update: Landline is back, internet’s still out. Mobile’s now good enough I can use my cellphone as a hotspot for the laptop; haven’t tried it with the MiBox for the TV.

Edit: Day 5 and still no internet. And I can’t use the cellphone as a hotspot on my work laptop for some reason.

The Columbus parking situation sucks donkey balls. I’ve come to a point where if I can’t park in a garage with a gate ticket to pay with I just don’t go there. I can’t figure out the app. Nothing I’ve read makes sense. So I don’t go.

Lmk if you need any info on where to find things or where to eat, shop, etc. And sorry about the weather.

My personal ThinkPad died 6 hours before I was scheduled to do a presentation for a user group.

I think it’s permanently dead, too. Not just a little dead.

Getting mauled by a cat while trying to cut its nails.
Ruined a good shirt and I’ve got deep, bleeding gashes on my arm, stomach and legs.

I’m a bit pissed right now. And not in the good way.
When we cook pasta for the two of us, we usually only cook half a package. My wife uses her scale to measure it out and divide it equally into two containers, one of which gets put in the cupboard.
Today we opened one up and put it on the scale. It says 450g on the package. Before opening it, it weighed 337g. That’s almost exactly 75%.
The next time I got to the store, I’m bringing the scale and I’ll see what the store manager has to say about it.
