Yeah, and i’m a bee farmer, so my truck is covered with bee shit too.
Let us know the results.
No Word yet, but the person i went with who was tested at the same time came back negative.
Im fine but 2 of my coworkers have it.
Sucks about your co-workers, but great news about you.
Last day of vacation.
Cleaning out the basement a bit while I wait for work to come in. I found a box full of treasure, but I’ve decided that while it is cool, I’ll never use it again and it’s just taking up space.
Beyond Zork (diskette AND floppy disk)

Lots more.
I also found a box with a DYMO gun and about 30 rolls of black and red tape. This will probably find its way to a market site.
Beyond Zork is of substantial note. That’s a piece of history. As with so many things in my own garage (original CD-ROMs and manuals for things like Baldur’s Gate, X-Com, etc.), I wish it to go on existing, but preferably with someone else taking care of it. I had thoughts of bringing some of my treasures (e.g. a Mattel Aquarius still in the box with all manuals and accessories) to the Living Computers Museum in Seattle, but now it’s an open question whether that will ever re-open.
I WANT THAT BEYOND ZORK SO BADDDDDD
Someday, I’ll have to unpack my Infocom games and get back to working on the documentation. I person I worked with over in Germany got official permission from Activision to publish game instructions for what they had a license for. We couldn’t do Shogun since that was under the control of the James Clavell estate, and Hitchhiker’s Guide since the Douglas Adams was still alive at the time. I believe I made black and white versions for most of them as placeholders. I did get Infocom’s newsletters fully done.
But, to brag a little bit, I was able to get some of the rarer older packages like the original Enchanter, Sorcerer, Infidel, Suspended and the flying saucer Starcross package. About the only one I didn’t get was the Mystery Library, which really was just a slipcase around three mystery games. The younger me was a die-hard Commodore 64 user who once thought, “I’ll never buy an IBM computer”, so there wasn’t any reason to get some of the MS-DOS versions.
If anyone wants it, send me a message with an offer. I guess I’ll give you nerds first crack at it.
Giefs to @Johtoguy
Seriously, that belongs in a museum. A collector will pay good $ for it.
I am collecting bits and pieces of software, like an OEM shrinkwrapped copy of Windows NT 4, a box for MS Dos 6.22 and so on, because it’s history.
You know …
I think I’ve got a complete and factory shrinkwrapped copy of DOS 6.22.
Just sayin’. I’m not using it for anything.
Ants.
We got a service to spray a while ago. They’re coming back.
I’m a bit depressed that Covid-19 is at least a contributing factor to two couples we’re friends with on my wife’s side breaking up recently.
Sad to hear
The ‘forced closeness’ does not help some relationships. I know I need to retreat to my happy place sometimes.
My wife and I do well at being separate t ogether, she feels a bit bad because she’s enjoyed the slower paced shutdown world.
Cable connectivity.
This is a complicated one. Follow along, if you dare …
I want to build a kind of mini-laptop-like device that can be plugged into a new Samsung phone to run the DEX desktop emulator software. It’s a fun challenge, and might be a useful side-hustle if I can ever get it going.
Here is what’s needed:
Samsung Galaxy S9 or newer (and a few other of their phones that support the software).
External monitor panel with a controller board to handle the power and input.
External battery pack (that can be charged up).
External keyboard with integrated trackpad.
A few other bits and bobs.
I got the screen first. It is for a 13" laptop and fits into the Pelican case lid I have just perfectly. Looking good. I can’t test it at this point because I don’t have a phone that will work with it.
The keyboard was next. It’s an external attachable for a Microsoft Surface. Sweet.
I bought a damaged Galaxy S9+ on eBay and it took a while to arrive. The screen is damaged, so I got a really good deal on it.
I connect power to the screen with a USB power adapter and a USB-C cable. I connect the phone to the screen via USB-C cable. The phone boots up and I can see it on the screen! However, I can’t get past the setup screen because the phone screen is broken and the new monitor isn’t touch-capable. Okay, I’m good up to this point.
I order another, smaller touch-screen monitor. Just to be able to get the phone set up so I can get the testing of this project going. It arrived the other day. The input for the phone are USB-B and HDMI.
AUGH! I am beset on all sides by connectivity problems. Now I need to find a USB-C to HDMI cable or adapter so I can get the phone set up so I can then use the phone with the other monitor.
It should be sweet once it gets going, but right now it’s just sitting in the corner while I get other projects going for the Etsy Canada Online show in 3 weeks.
Bluetooth mouse+kb?
USB3 hub a possibility?
Or usb hub + usb to vga adapter + usb mouse/kb?
Connectivity issues just aint fun.
