Things that suck

Here is an up-to-date list of things that are not my favourite:

Having raised two and in the middle of a third, I can see where you are coming from with this.

Seconded. If only we could outsource them until they are human again…

I must be somewhat lucky. My 19-year-old son has been a dream kid, never had any major issues with him. My wife and I wonder how we raised a kid with a strong moral compass. My 16-year-old daughter is a work in progress though, but she’s been quite a bit more manageable as she gets older.

My mom always says I was “the good one”. My younger sister was the hellion.

On the minor side of things, I usually get sick with a cold only once a year and it’s almost always more of a nuisance than anything else. This year it’s going to be “Have I got it?” at the first symptom. Paranoia or precaution?

You’re not the only one.

There was a distinct lack of bacon in the last year.
For me.

If your network monitoring/config management tool is Solarwinds, the sucking will continue for quite a bit it seems. They just announced another major issue which they pinky-swear the newest version is free from, but at this point, really?

Pizza is losing its appeal to me. I wanted to order one tonight and looked at the nutrition info. There’s how much sodium in it? And that’s per slice?

It’s the same when I go to the grocery store. In order to get one that fits a low-salt diet, you have to get a fairly plain pizza with almost no crust and no meats.

It’s getting to be less and less worth it.

In general most ‘prepared food’ is high on sodium. We’ve watching John Favreau’s movie Chef and the spin off series where he cooks with people. The comment was made today that professional chefs tend to go heavy on butter and salt.

Prepared/frozen meals are almost always high on salt. I can’t blame anyone for keeping a ‘bag meal’ or two in the fridge for those weird nights, but it’s rarely a healthier choice than tossing together your own mix of pasta, veggies, and sauce or whatever.

Frozen food tends to go heavy on salt because it’s a flavor enhancer, so a safe-ish way to help balance the flavor lost due to being frozen and all. Of course a lot of prepared stuff is heavy because it’s very human to be drawn to high fat/salt stuff that tastes good and restaurants have a vested interest in swerving not people tasty food.

4x inlet valves and 8x exhaust valves damaged.

At least the pistons are Ok.

This happened due to the cambelt climbing off the pulleys. HTF that can happen I have NFI.

At least we got a new cambelt, pulleys and tensioner, the head is going to engineering tomorrow.

Was a real PITA getting the head off the engine, apparently the turbo is water cooled.

Ouch. I feel your pain there.

I’ve had a package stuck in the USPS system for about 3 weeks now. It hit the Philly distribution center on Dec 19th. It sat there until Dec 30th, until it moved out to one of the more local distribution centers. It’s now been there ever since with no evidence of movement.

This was supposed to be a holiday present for my daughter (and a thing for myself as well).

Join the club. I’ve got… three packages (small gifts to people) that have been lost in the Phantom Zone for even longer than that. Not a huge deal thing, but annoying.

I had a package that I shipped on Dec 2nd arrive on Dec 29th.

There was a report last week that the USPS is often the “last mile” as other companies use them to complete a delivery, or they cut off deliveries for some companies to meet the Christmas Eve deadline, forcing those companies to switch to sending via the USPS. Couple that with staffing shortages, some due to quarantining, and there’s a few USPS locations that are getting so many items coming in that they cannot process them fast enough to keep up.

IT MOVED! It finally moved and is out for delivery!

If you like Hot Pockets, check the code on the package. Batches have been recalled because they could have glass or plastic in them.
