What Made You Happy Today?

More rain promised for the weekend. Yay.

Need to cut some grass later this afternoon, could not do it last weekend as everything was wet.

Found out the reason I hadnā€™t been contacted with a new contract offer (we renew every year, no chance Iā€™m not staying - that was already determined) was not because they just didnā€™t get around to it or couldnā€™t decide on a salary. Rather, they thought they had asked me what I wanted my salary to be, and were waiting for a response. And weā€™re actually nervously waiting. As if I were playing hardball. Heheheā€¦ Too bad the real reason I hadnā€™t replied is because they never asked. I am a master negotiator and I didnā€™t even know it! :smiling_imp:

So glad I cut some grass as it rained sometime during the night and everything was wet.

Hopefully I can cut some more later this afternoon.

You guys and your upside down weather.

And whoā€™s to say itā€™s HIS weather thatā€™s upside down? Hmmm?

Northern-hemisphere-centric, you areā€¦

:stuck_out_tongue:

Yes. I have no idea how people handle it down there. Must have cast iron sinuses. Upside down their whole lives.

Itā€™s our rainy season here too, and weā€™re in the Northern Hemisphere. :stuck_out_tongue:

Iā€™m waiting for contract info myselfā€¦ Iā€™m on my third recruiter, 3rd HR/Payroll person, and just started my 2nd year here in November.

I got everything I asked for. Which was more than I was willing to accept. I over asked my salary, figuring they would come back lower, and they didnā€™t. So I just got more than a 33% raise. Which, honestly, I should, as I will be going from 3 days a week to 4, which is 33% more days. But I calculated what my salary should be now at 4 days based on my current daily rate, gave myself a 5% raise, then rounded up to the nearest 10k. And they said yes.

Almost feel like I should have asked for more. Oh well, thereā€™s always next yearā€¦

Ahem.
Fuck you.
No, really. Fuck you.
Seriously.
I mean, congratulations. Iā€™m sure you deserve it.
But, ā€¦ you know.

Well, Iā€™ve been there for ten years, so I should be handsomely rewarded. Also, I donā€™t complain, I donā€™t screw up, I donā€™t get complaints filed against meā€¦ My employment folder has one piece of paper in it - my national accreditation number so I can write international health certificates. Not bad after ten years, Iā€™d say. :grinning:

Starting a new office in 3ā€¦2ā€¦1ā€¦

We donā€™t really have a rainy season.
It rains more in winter than it does in summer, we have more sunny days in summer than winter, winter is quite a bit colder than summer, we get quite a few storms in the changeovers between summer and winter.
Thatā€™s about it

Well, congrats, even if it might have been more.

I broached the ā€œwhat would I need to do to move to the next higher levelā€ question with my boss and bosses boss when I had monthly one-on-one sessions with each.

They said theyā€™d consider what it would take and get back to me.

The following month I was promoted, with a 33% hike in pay.

Not so much made me happy as made me laugh.

ā€˜Medium rareā€™ chicken

Someone found a Japanese restaurant that has partly uncooked chicken on the menu (apparently itā€™s a delicacy over there) and posted it to their Facebook page under the title of medium rare chicken. Most people saw the funny side, some people warned about how stupid people could take her seriously and try it, but the one that made me laugh was:

You should only cook it this way if youā€™re 100 per cent sure the chicken wasnā€™t vaccinated. Because that gives them autism and autistic chickens get salmonella

One of our local stores is now selling sports bras and gear from our favorite vender at the local summer street market!

Itā€™s a great concept for a storeā€¦Provide a selling space for local small producers, on consignment. They get exposure, you get no real risk. Thereā€™s several in the central Ohio area. Big ā€œBuy Localā€ movement here. And it keeps the prices of the local goods somewhat competitive, as they donā€™t have to pay overhead for a shop or a booth at a market, as those get wicked expensive. We stumbled on this vendor this summer and love her stuff, and now Iā€™m hooked. Same thing with the local soap makers, etc. And their products are actually much better than the national brands IMO.

And today, we are making a day of it. Shopping downtown, hitting the libraryā€¦Kids are excited to hit the local candy storeā€¦ Yay!

It is Friday!!! Ok, so Iā€™m at the office and it is almost 6pm, but it has been a long week, so Iā€™m just happy to be close to the end.

My commute home tonight was slightly shorter than usual (only 1hr 45 minutes from leaving work to getting home), as compared to yesterdayā€™s nightmare that took over 3 hours.

I hate public transport sometimes.

Found a shortcut yesterday. Granted, it is 2 to 3 kms longer, but it allows me to bypass a section of the highway that is absolutely clogged with idiotic drivers trying to push in at the front of the queue.

At least you get time to read and decompress after work.
