What Made You Happy Today?

Ran into a problem that’s common to both Excel and OpenOffice that meant a lot of tedious corrections when I needed to duplicate sections in a new area. Figured out how to get around that a little easier (i.e., not quite so many tedious corrections) and then realized that I could use this “feature” to prevent another problem and for something else I’m working on.

I must be more of a cynical, jaded curmudgeon than I thought, as that failed to even raise a grin…

I’m at work.

The rest of the story… I took off last week for spring break, because $Wife was off because she works at a school. I was sick the whole time. We did manage to do an overnight trip to San Antonio (saw the zoo), and San Marcos (so wife could shop the outlets), but we were both sick and probably shouldn’t have gone. To clarify, I was ready to cancel the hotel reservation, but $Wife wanted to get out of the house and do something vacation-y. The unusual amount of physical activity really kicked my butt, and probably extended being sick. I’m not 100%, but no longer have a fever and my coughing is down to a level that isn’t too terribly disrupting to the whole office.

I used the phrase “lovingly hand-lasered” with a straight face.

I bought myself an Oreo McFlurry today! And may have gained a new voice student (which would make six, total)!

This week has been looooonnnng, with rehearsal after rehearsal, late nights, two concerts, too much socializing, my septic system becoming a potential money pit (possibly installed without a vital part almost seven years ago), my car two or three left turns from killing me on the highway (bolts barely keeping rack-and-pinion steering together), and my dad being hospitalized for herniated discs in his back.

I AM SO DONE. But I got ice cream.

For a moment I thought you meant a euphemism there and I was severely concerned. But since it’s a real septic system I’m just a bit worried.

Our Fidget Cubes finally shipped.

Awesome, I almost backed that one, but it was in the middle of a Kickstarter Frenzy on my part so I passed.

I read an article about them being beat to market on this, along with several other cool but simple ideas on kickstarter. This guy, or organization, is making a killing off skimming the easiest ideas off KS and beating them to market with them. They are usually under capitalized and still looking for options, and often increased demand makes it worse for them since they’ll have to upscale an operation they already could barely handle. This dude takes his money, pours it into a chinese factory and comes out with something “good enough”.

It’s a horrible thing to do, but it’s also brilliant. And on some of this stuff, there is room in the market for competition.

Found it, or one like it.

Yup, read that too. Lots of people say it’s not nearly as great as the genuine article, but you wonder how much of that is justifying their purchase in their own mind.

It’s 50 degrees (F) outside and only raining. Our living space has managed to maintain 60-63 degrees during the day, after using the oven, dishwasher, stove, and the lights that still have incandescent bulbs. It doesn’t make me happy that our furnace has malfunctioned, but I am happy that it chose now and not a month ago—or a month before winter. And now I also have cheese biscuits, because I needed to bake something and generate oven-heat. These bad boys are almost as good as Red Lobster’s, if I do say so, myself.

I got a neighbour to run out of the house in her pajamas and be happy with me for it.

… go on.
Just let me get some wet wipes and popcorn first.

That definitely needs a bit of explanation

See the Pokemon Go thread…

Domino’s is running a series of commercials based on Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Finally, a football player gets a dose of his own medicine.

Referee fakes being headbutted

Personally, I would have given him a red card as well if I was in the ref’s position. I get sick of seeing football players getting in ref’s faces and yelling at them and think that more of them should be sent off.

Dolphins saved from purse seiner fishing net off Tauranga coast

Basically, a commercial fisherman dumped his entire catch of around 30 tonnes of fish because he had a few dolphins in the net as well and dumping his catch was the only way he could see of not hurting the dolphins.

This man deserves a medal. It’s not often you see anything placed above money in the commercial world.

We have made solidly in the 5 digits this month. Our first month. And it’s getting busier. Happy doesn’t even begin to describe it. Hopefully we can get one of us there full-time in the next six months. And maybe then I can just do surgeries two days a week. It’s almost like it’s really happening… :joy:

This was last night, but Neil Gaiman is really worth listening to. I especially enjoyed him telling about what collaborating with Terry Pratchett on Good Omens was like.
