Not sure if this trip will become a routine or not, but if so, maybe we could meet to eat, or something.
This trip was just get there, get back as quickly as I could.

Wouldnât it have been cheaper & faster for them to fly you out?
If you take a more northern route, youâll go by me, @ToasterFairy, @ANHWizard & @FTPMonster.
Nice area of PA. I grew up about 45 min southeast of it and went to college about 30 min north of it. Good fly fishing around there!
Yes, faster, @dakboy, but it was my choice to drive - I had to really talk my boss into it.
I am not willing to give up my rights for security theater⌠I have a real issue with what the TSA has become and what they put travelers through. So if I can, Iâll drive.
This way I kept my shoes on, took along as much shampoo as I wanted, didnât have to stand in lines and be subjected to any searches, PLUS packed as much as I wanted and had a cooler with food and drink at the far end (my coworkers were quite jealous).
Iâm pushing hard that if we have a similar event again, that we find an event venue halfway between, and each group can drive. I think Iâm going to find opposition, though⌠if one group flies to the other city, we only lose work manhours to travel for them. If everyone drives, we lose manhours for both groups.
I know youâve drive down my way in the past, but youâre also have a different endpoint up your way. Which route would you recommend, if I repeat this?
I hear you about the TSA, Doc. My girlfriend wants to fly next time we go to Vegas. Itâs only a five hour drive (flight time is about 55 min), but I have much more freedom with what I can bring and get to keep my shoes on.
I wouldnât complain if they widened I-15 between Barstow and the CA/NV border though.
According to Google, it doesnât make much difference which route you take as far as drive time is concerned. 5-10 minutes variation, which is negligible over 13 hours.
If youâre driving in the winter, I canât in good conscience send you on I-90 between Cleveland & MA. So. Much. Snow.
Construction traffic aside, I-84 across PA was like driving through a national park. Trees, and trees, and more tree. Kinda peaceful.
New Hampshirite coworker said 90 has less traffic, as long as a Steelers game isnât letting out when you go past there.
The closest I-90 gets to Pittsburgh is about 120 miles.
I spent the day sightseeing at Fishermanâs Wharf and Pier 39, making new friends and speaking Japanese most of the time. And I got paid to do it!
The teachers from Japan made some headhunting noises at me. I might be able to score a paid, one month trip to Japan herding high schoolers.
(emphasis added)
You have my sincerest condolences. If there is anything I can do to help you through this troubled time, please let me know. Really, Iâm here for you.
LOL The herding high schoolers part sounds like a lot of work, but the free trip to Japan sounds pretty good. I can stand to work hard for a month for the experience.
I set the treadmill on fire yesterday during my run.
Okay, actually it was just a faulty plug in the wall that started smoking but weâre going to go with I run so fast the machine caught fire. I will be getting the mandatory Sonic the Hedgehog haircut later this week.
Are you going to dye it blue as well?
Heck yeah I will
If you go to Walgreens, they have a brand of hair color called Splat. It comes in some great colors, including that shade of blue. I have used it on a number of occasions, to color my beard.
It even comes with the necessary bleaching stuff⌠When using a color like that, you donât want to mix it with your regular hair color. Some combos look awful, others donât look like anything (although I saw a guy who had copper red hair and streaked it with the purple, without bleaching - the effect was admirable).
If you donât have a Walgreens nearby, they also have a website you can order it from - Wallgreens, not Splat. Splat has a website, but last I checked, they donât have the option of buying it direct.
Home made ice cream for dessert.
Itâs Friday! Now pass the Funny Juice â˘.
Possible Babylon 5 movie.
I think Iâve finally got my mic situation settled so that I can do remote media interviews properly. Sennheiser EW100 wireless lav mic via XLR to Zoom H4N box, H4N via USB to computer as a regular input source for Google Hangout/Skype/Whatever Collaborative Thing Theyâre Using. For monitoring, single earbud in one ear connected to H4Nâs stereo audio-out port.
Sound is crystal and hiss-free, and more importantly I donât have a giant set headphone/boom mic on my head like an idiot. I R PROFESHUNAL JURNALISMER.
Eight months of Frazz in one day.
