Got to spend some time with my great-nephew Vesper. If they could figure out a way to harness his energy, the entire planet could give up fossil fuels.
He can come over and chase Pixie around my yard. She plays all morning before work, then nine hours in daycare, then a couple more before bed. This is why I adopt seniors.
It took the state and the Army 22 months to process my āautomaticā promotion and only 5 more months to finally get the rest of my back pay for that period. This is being deposited in my account this week.
Itās a victory of sorts and Iām quite happy to have the money, but I feel we should all be deeply embarrassed that it has taken this long.
The embarrassment is that as I read this I was nodding my head saying, yeah, thatās how it is⦠from a military 30 years ago.
Had a guy who never got paid in three years, he thought it was all just going to be paid at the end⦠it was plus interest. His family sent him some money every month to buy stuff.
Over the last few weeks, not just today:
- started a new job with the NG, which will probably be my last before I retire in mid-2024;
- Siglet Prime became obsessed with accordions; we rented one last week and his first lesson is this Wednesday;
- have been collaborating with a metal guitarist I met on fediverse, writing and recording bass lines for her face-melting guitar parts. We probably could not be more different in every other facet of our existence, but the metal crosses boundaries.
CoG Forums are back online.
One more day until Iām back on vacation.
We have new gutters up at our house, which will help a lot with rainwater harvesting.
Garden work - weed mat is down, the raised garden beds are in position and 1.5 of them are full of soil. Roll on the warmer weather and growing edible stuff.
I really miss my garden this year. In two weeks when Iāve mostly moved, Iām going to start putting together one raised bed and getting it planted with hot weather stuff. Since I have a greenhouse, Iāll plan a winter garden. Iām going to need it since budget is tight.
Weāre also planning to erect a greenhouse, in order to keep pests like baboons away.
My dadās doing a lot better, and is fairly self-sufficient at the moment, so Iām back home during the week. Iāll still go up on weekends, but I wonāt necessarily be hanging around the house all the time.
The prognosis itself hasnāt changed, though, just the timeline.
I ended up with āhorrorā for my category in the latest NYCMidnight Flash Fiction challenge, which is waaaaaaaaay outside my comfort zone. I was considering not submitting, but then I remembered Iād written a Halloweāen story that might work. A little bit of editing and reworking to fit the other two prompts (a debut and a baton) in, and I submitted it just before the deadline.
Honestly, I suspect itās going to get DQād because itās not āhorrorā enough, but Iāll still get the feedback on it, which is more important.
One of my pics was selected to be part of the summer cover photo for the central Ohio Hikerbabes page. Neato!
Found some rubber pads in a cupboard.
Snaffled it and put it on my Logitech keyboard instead. Feels much better, as the stock rubber pads just doesnāt do the job properly.
I have officially received money in exchange for music: a total of about 20 bucks via bandcamp.
BRB gonna go quit my job
Congrats! I feel the same way when I make a few bucks on a photo I sell.
Blood pressure coming down without medication.
And it looks like Iāve started to shed some weight as well.
Good for you!
The Dragonlady broke her favourite mug.
Sheās been using this mug for 10 years or more, and it was ugly, chipped, and had stains that would not come out. She cursed and swore when it hit the kitchen floor.
Iāve been waiting for this day for a long time. I had originally given it to her as a gift, and had a second one in storage. As she was picking up the pieces of ceramic and sweeping the floor, I was gently washing the new mug and handed it to her when she was done.
Iāve never known her to be without words before. It was worth the setup.
