What Made You Happy Today?

I’ll second that. I picked up a Sanus Full-Motion TV mount and it’s worked out really well because I can change the angle to match where I’m sitting. The only reason why I didn’t get it perfect the first time when I mounted it was because the wonderful people who built this house were “creative” in how they did some of the vertical boards in the walls.

A restaurant in Manchester has taken a stand against customers who were openly disrespectful and rude to one of their waiters, who happens to be living with autism.

And the outpouring of support for the waiter and the restaurant has been heartening.

A local suburb has just banned the sale of dogs within city limits by corporations (pet stores) unless they are obtained through a rescue or shelter first. No more puppy mill puppies in that town. Hopefully other cities will soon follow suit!

What’s next, black market black labs?

On first day of a 4-day mikrotik course.

Very interesting, but hectic, yo!

And work is paying for it.

I don’t like puppy mills, but doesn’t this kill legitimate dog breeders as well?

No because it is specific to retail establishments. Unless a breeder is selling as a storefront operation they are not included. And the pet stores generally do not buy straight from breeders, but rather from brokers. Because they don’t need 12 labs and 5 Poms and 7 chihuahuas, they need one or two of each. So they go to a broker who buys from many breeders, warehouses the pups, gives them a quick once-over, and then sorts them into trucks to travel to wherever they are “needed”. Most pups originate in Missouri. Think about that…a seven week old puppy in a truck straight from Missouri to Ohio with no stops…seems ridiculous when we have so many rescues in this area that are overflowing and the shelter is still euthanizing over 10% of the dogs that come in… I get it if you want a specific breed, then by all means go to a reputable breeder - that’s what we did since DH has so many allergies. But most people have no idea what they want other than a puppy…

I was flabbergasted to learn how many puppy mills are owned and run by the Amish. They see dogs as livestock, nothing more.

If they aren’t a pet, that’s all they are. The only difference between some animals we use for food and ones we use for companionship is how we treat them.

Speaking of livestock…

We had to do this with our cat because of my girlfriend’s allergies. We went directly to the breeder though, not to a retail store (I don’t think pet stores even sell Siberians anyway).

I get all my dogs from shelters or people that rescued them anyway. Though I’m over a actual rescued dog until my daughter is older. My last two had anger management problems.

Hearing that the Mikrotik exam is an open book exam.

Which is a good idea, you will be using google and the mikrotik wiki frequently.

Youngsters have it so much easier today - in my days (when I did my Novell CNA course) you had to memorize everything, no open book exam etc. Which sucked a bit. And which is stupid, you will be using resources like the internet or manuals anyway.

Anyway, also glad that the course is almost finished, and I have learnt a lot. Brain is a bit tender though  (at my age at 46 I’m glad that I can still absorb things)

Besides alcohol?

My final is open book/internet. I tell my students that part of what I’m testing them on is their Google-fu, since some of the stuff I’m telling them to do isn’t in their books and wasn’t necessarily covered in lecture. For example, GPOs were covered in the book, but not specifics. I had them configure some GPOs such as set desktop wallpaper and make sure the users can’t change it, redirect user folders, push out a printer, and install and uninstall a piece of software.

I also let them talk to each other and help each other in the final because in the real world, their coworkers are a legitimate resource for knowledge too.

Agreed.

Closed-book exams only encourages braindumping.

Passed the Mikrotik examination.

So happy.

Pi?

Or another word that makes this post ten characters?
