Yup, but that one is kind of different. The guy that claims to have defined it says it is JIF, like the peanut butter brand. But, if it is an abbreviation for Graphics Interchange Format, saying it with a J sound makes no sense to me. No one that I know of pronounces it Jraphics (like giraffe ??), so why would they say jif instead of Gif (like graphics or Grrrreat!) ???
I guess that’s a pet peeve.
Kind of like how Mr Dyson can’t say the word vacuum (vac-yum versus vac-cue-um) or Steve Jobs couldn’t say Jaguar (jag-wire versus jag-you-are), maybe the guy who invented gifs can’t say gif.
Jag-waar (Short form is pillock holster right?)
Vac-yoom is right isn’t it?
It’s missing its dieresis, it should be vacuüm. Like cooperate should be coöperate, to indicate the voiced second consonant. Oh, and skiïng, but that looks messy with the dot from the first i.

Vacuum and Skiing are both tow sillyables long. ![]()
Cooperate is four. Corporate is 3.
Finally upgrading my phone to Marshmallow.
I bought my tickets to Range 15 through Tugg today and it’s showing at my local theater.
Just watched a video of people trying to burn the American Flag… and it wouldn’t light. Looks like they were heating their lighters up so much they started burning themselves.
I’m for your right to express yourself however you’d like as long as it doesn’t harm others, but I’m still going to chuckle when you do something like that.
Probably one of those cheap ones made in China.
Working from home, and I’m getting a good handle on actually gettin things done while I’m doing it. There is just enough lag that working on big projects is rally annoying though.
Are you RDPing into your work desktop, letting it do the heavy lifting? When I’ve tried to do limited work from home, that’s the only way I could without getting frustrated. Of course, most of what I do is on a closed network, so remoting in isn’t generally an option.
VMWare into a Remote Desktop session.
My current work-from-home setup is kind of crazy:
- RDP from Desktop Home Mac to work Laptop
- Run VPN on Work laptop. Some stuff works fine here.
- RDP from Work Laptop to Work Desktop for access to certain systems that are blocked from the VPN.
I’d like to trim the procedure down a bit, but you gotta use what work provides.
Is the lag your Internet connection at home? I get caught by that if I need to do file uploads, but most of the time the bandwidth needed by an RDP is covered by my ADSL.
I RDP into jump box in the actual environment where I work, and try to do any and all file tx to and from there.
My connection is 50 somethings, and I think they bumped me to 75.
I think the issue is I’m on via Wifi on the provided cable modem. I need to dig some, or run to fry’s and grab a 20 foot cat 5 cable. Often my ping on WoT will shoot up to 999, same with most games I play online, and a one second delay on scrolling a spreadsheet is just as bad as a one second delay in shooting a tank.
Wednesday I had my fastest run in 6 months (3.55 miles @ an average 8:41 pace)
Today I had my longest run in 6 months (4.11 miles @ 9:04)
Last summer, these numbers would have been on the weak side for me (in August I did 5.28 @ 8:38 and was doing 4+ miles pretty regularly). I’ve had a rough past 8 months with running. Between getting hurt in September, then winter, then changing my stride at the beginning of May…maybe I’ve finally turned the corner.
Microsoft evidently don’t care as much about backwards compatibility as they used to… attempting to visit their main website through IEx 4.5 yields a browser crash!
Dude, is that OS 9?
Naturally. How else would one run Explorer 4.5?
