I’m hoping to get some excellent tomorrow when we head up to East Lansing to drop DD14 off at video game design camp, and some more playing with the boys while she’s gone and I’m on vacation. It’s so much fun, even if you’re a super-casual player like I am…
Not at work today. I am on vacation for two weeks! And we really have nothing planned except a quick trip back to MI to pick up DD and hit my 20yr reunion. Mostly just having a last relaxing hurrah before school starts back up.
I went to my girlfriend’s 20 year reunion a couple weeks ago. We attended the same high school but I graduated in 1992 and she graduated in (duh) 1996. So there was a lot of “yeah, I knew your older brother/sister”.
I got hired!
EE call centre. Into tech support hell I go
(EE are the merged offspring of Orange and T-Mobile in the UK, owned by BT… talk about job security!)
Congratulations! Make sure to post your war stories.
I think I’ll need my own thread in the George section
My wife just doubled my theoretical GenCon budget. I told her to set the budget this year, since I feel like I overspend, but she’s doubling down.
We usually bring too much money for what we spend, it’s a lot when you just buy a couple things here and there, but not enough for big purchases. This amount I’ll likely split in half and have half of it in her purse and half of it in my wallet. That way I can still buy the little stuff, a game here and there, some paint and that, and we’ll still have the big wad back to buy something we have to have.
Not that any of it is “have to have”, but sometimes want bleeds into need.
I just doubled my theoretical GenCon budget too. Zero times two is still zero.
Same here, Force10. I haven’t been able to go in a few years. I miss it, but it’s not in the budget right now.
Yep. Last time I went was in 2011.
Since I’m in town the initial buy in is lower, this is my third year in a row. I don’t actually play that many games when I’m there compared to some people. I like wandering around and picking up a bit of this or that.
I will admit I’m in a “less stuff” phase which makes buying a bunch of books and boxed games a but iffy right now. I don’t remember seeing as much Classic D&D stuff for sale, which is also in my wheelhouse.
Yeah that’s very true. Same with me for Comic Con (although good luck getting a ticket). Last time I went we bookended the con with meat. Lunch at Fogo de Chao on Thursday and dinner at St. Elmo on Sunday night. ![]()
The food trucks make it pretty fun, plus the beer garden with the local GenCon named beer. Froth of Kahn one year, don’t remember the other two.
We had a power outage for about 40 minutes last night. No big deal but that meant @GratchSabbat and I got out the Cards Against Humanity set. That woman is broken.
Finished some body work in my truck, then went and got a mani/pedi. Next up housework, followed by typing up some case studies. Yeah. A well-rounded day.
I need a pedicure so bad. Not that my feet are a wreck or anything, but they need a bit of buffing and trimming.
I was called out of my classroom by my department head today. I walk out to see him and the dean of the school. They were there to tell me that I am now a full time teacher.
Congrats @Nabiki!!
On Monday I got contacted by a headhunter agency. Sent in my CV and other particulars, still have to hear from them and the possible client/new work.
On Wednesday got an email asking if I’m still in the job market. Replied affirmative, and is booked for an assessment next week Thursday @ 10:00. (Gonna play sick, doctor’s visit or something).
Yesterday somebody else on a Whatsapp group mentioned they’re looking for skilled sysadmins/engineers, replied in the affirmative, CV sent off, waiting to hear.
And today one of our chappies is celebrating his last day in Hell, we’re having a braai (BBQ) at lunch time and then he’ll be off, never to return. Manglement is very pissed.
Oh, and he only invited a selected group of people to be at his farewell, intense dislike for manglement etc. (myself, the people from designs, and two or three from the projects dept, nothing more).
So it was a good week for me. And I’m pretty sure next week will have even better news.
